Cambelt on and timed up.
Gearbox back on.
Engine fully assembled.
So next, was to get the car lifted up so that I could slide the engine in place. It was handy to have a forklift on hand for this!
Engine in!
A couple of pics with the roll over jig finally removed and she now sits on 4 wheels, after all this time.
Then yesterday I put the driveshafts on, intercooler in place and bolted the supercharger in so I could see which boost hose parts I require. It is incredible how tight fitting a g60 engine is these mk1's! It fits without anything touching but there is millimetres to play with!
That's all for now, thanks for looking

Agree with Andy here, I feel a deep set jealousy reading what you've done and wish I a) knew what you were doing and b) that I could do it
Car is looking fantastic, will be so much fun to drive

The engine build Is the next task on my list (and the one I am most looking forward to!)
As such, I have a few questions if I may…
- were you advised to use new big-end and con-rod bolts?
- who supplied the bolts and shells?
- What did you paint the block with?
Thanks in advance!

Loving the engine work! It will be a lovely car when it is finished (not that it looks bad currently!)

Hi Jason,
I reused the main bearing bolts as it's not an issue on these. In my manual, it says you can reuse the conrod bolts once, but as they are stretch bolts and the fact that I had spent a bit of money on the engine, also the engine would be running more power than standard I decided that I would spend some extra £££ and buy arp items from only charged dubs. There was no way I was going to cut corners at this stage as it would be always in the back of my mind
The shell bearings I bought from oem parts and paint for the block I used a gloss black for general metal that I had at work.
Hope this helps

I was never happy when I last rebuilt my short block as I didn't change them. When I torqued it up it wouldn't turn over () so I had to back them off a little.
Car was only on the road for a few months before I took it off again for some more tlc. As that was a long time ago, I'm going to strip it down again and get it balanced and do it properly!
As you say, it doesn't pay to skimp!
Keep up the good work.

Got a few more bits fitted now, some of the engine loom is in along with gearchange cables, clutch and throttle cable plus a few other bits.
Im having a radiator custom made, which should be done in about a week. Its just the rad and some more electrics to do before I can fire her into life.
I got the exhaust fitted after making a couple of modifications. I cut out an unnecessary step and welded in a straight piece to avoid any restriction and bent a piece of stainless pipe to make an upswept tailpipe.
Also fitted the front wings and bumper.
Today I spent fitting the doors.
Thats all for now

Its an old skool copper and brass type. Tripple core, well made and reasonably priced, so I am pleased!
Fan fitted.
And installed!
Thats all for now, next I need to find a place to fit the oil cooler.

I have got the oil cooler fitted now.
Here are the mounting brackets which I made.
And fitted.
Also got the intercooler pipes fitted, I bought a couple of ali pipes, one straight and also a u bend for the part between the rallye bend off the charger and the intercooler. I then cut them to the required length and got a local fabricator to swage the ends.
Heres a pic of the lower bend from underneath.
And lastly some pics of the engine bay as it stands.
Thats all for now. Next part is to finish off the electrics and see if she comes to life….
Thats all for now
