mk1 16v conversion,mot'd and running in

as of 9am this morning 21/10/2008 the car is MOT'd

straight through with a couple minor advisories that were on order anyway

getting a full set of rear drums shoes and cylinders

drivers side steering rack gaitor is also about splitting

couple of other bits that have been bugging me are the bumpers so ive got a new set of blacks coming,itll sort out the droopy indicator and freshen it up a bit

also want to get underneath now the brakelines and fuel lines are all done and clean of some surface rust on bits and may also steal my jettas seam welded wishbones and rear axle to firm it up a bit more and clean it up a bit then waxoyl or underseal the whole floor

Kl keep an eye out for me as i should be floating about till about 1pm,car will be outside as i have to leave early but its nowhere near clean/straight enough to be inside except maybe on a club stand anyway lol

Good work Daz. Those wheels look nice, where did you find them? What would they have originally been on?

What fuel pump did you use?

A std GTI one or a custom jobby?

I'm just about to do the conversion in a 1.3 too, it's all being swapped from a running Mk1 GTI with a 16v in there, so I just need to swap everything over.

Just wondered if I should use the std GTI pump or use an aftermarket one!

Any help much appreciated

nice wheels. where did you get the inner seals from for the doors?

pete the wheels turned up at a scottish show at the weekend following a dealership close down,picked them up cheap cheap(so cheap i couldnt walk by them)and they are originally A6 'winter' wheels

calum youll get away with the gti pump although i used much of the old digifant set up from my old swap

ross-m i cut up some refuse bags and just trimmed under the door panels then spray glued them on,the passengers seal was shot but seemed to make sense to do them both

Ok cheers. I saw you mk1 at Bathgate. Was looking great on the bbs's

cheers man,id usually have been out in the car park more often but i was starting work at 2pm so couldnt hang about as long as id have liked. Pretty much turned up bought the new rims gabbed for a bit then had to shoot  sorry i never had a chance to chat   . I think there are moves afoot to get a scottish meet on the go so hopfully have a yap then  

had a pretty solid coule of weeks driving then the problems started lol

cars dead at all revs and wont pull over 5000

diagnosis-fuelling

swapped out the metering head and fuel pump and just got a lift pump to source and fit now but been on a bit of a wheel frenzy

too the 14" P's to the polisher and also my bbs rs's,the 14's are in the for sale section now but the 15's are currently getting some treatment

got more to worry about now,got up this morning and i had a slow puncture,drove up to the local garage to blow it up and its the valve thats knackered.

pull away from the pump and ive got loadsa steam,popped a core puug from the rear of the engine

Lucky it happened just as you were pulling away, a mate of mine had this happen on his kr, when he was ranting it 8O

it was the middle of the day lol,everybody i knew was working and no tow available,luckily its real close to home so ran water through it from the header tank then had several cooling stops on the way home,never got higher than 90' but took me about 3/4 hour to get 2miles

Nightmare, least it's still ok, and didnt over heat.

small mercies and that,tried today but couldnt get iit from above,my bro's bringing up a trolley jack tomorrow and ill do a wheel swap and get it from below
