Thanks Smudge. Yes the colour of that water was minging. Im going down to Biggar with the car on Saturday for the Volksfling show so by the time ive been there and back I will probably change my oil for some decent stuff as I just put run of the mill stuff in to run the engine in. I was forced to use the golf as my daily driver this week as I blew the turbo on my Audi  :(

First Golf, lots of work. I've started so I'll finish!

Thanks for all the kind words folks its been a slog but it always puts a smile on my face when I go out to it.
I used spray paint for all my silver stuff in the engine.  Obviously heat resistant stuff for the exhaust manifold and the head and 5 wheels silver for the rest. All stuff that I got from the motor factor near my work. I will check the make for you tomorrow.
As for the inlet manifold I just polished it with a wire brush and wire wheel on my drill.

Doing my car has definitely been worth it. Not only did I put another mk1 golf back on the road but I also gained 2 nights in an Aberdeen hotel for my wife and I courtesy of specialist cars vw.

Saw this car in the flesh this evening and I have to say it was absolutely stunning. The pictures dont do the mars red justice. She is a credit to macca.

It was good to meet you and thanks for the loan of the spit. I will use your mk1 as inspiration to get my ass in gear.

Grieg

I hadn't seen your build thread

Quality work mate, I didn't realise it needed that much doing to it, so its an even better car IMO now !!!
