Golf Gti -1979

Hahaha! I had almost forgotten about the spare wheel housing!
But it is possible to weld it back if someone wants that sometimes in the future! ;)
But the car will probably remain this way because I have no plans of selling it!
Thanks anyway! :)

And Im sitting here and wondering on what kind of brake pads I should use!?
I was thinking a bit on the EBC green stuff,.. anyone tested these? Good or bad?
Or does anyone have any other suggestions?  :dontknow:

Thanks! :)  hopefully it will turn out quite okay anyway I hope! :)

And I also have a little question that someone may be able to help me with!? :)
I'm thinking of making homemade fuel hoses from the pump to accumulator and from the accumulator to supply line..
And I plan to use 8mm nylon air line to that purpose, but what I need help with is the end fittings!?
I've looked around on eBay.co.uk a lot now and don`t know what kind of fittings i can use?!? Some AN fittings maybe?
The 2 I have the biggest problems to find is the 2 that sits on the accumulator..
So if anyone can link to "push-on" fitting that might work for my purpose it would be really great! :D

these are the ones I know

main pump banjo - M12x1.5
fuel filter input - M14x1.5
fuel filter output - M12x1.5
metering head wur line - M12x1.5
metering head main in/out - M12x1.5

see if any of the above lines fit your accumulator outputs then you'll know! they'll be metric fittings though either way

edit: but check out crazyquiffs wepsite to the left first. he does the 2 lines to the accumulator/fuel pump on their own if you want em

Thank you very much! :)
And thanks so much for the link! But I think I will ordered finished ones anyway, it was not so super expensive at crazyquiffs I thought it would be :)
But thanks for the tip, nice building you have there bye the way!

Very good to know!
But as you write, I will order from crazyquiffs instead as that feels like it is easiest :)

Time for a little update!
I have, bought a Golf GL from 1982 that I've picked some parts from to the GTI..

And I've also fixed a bit with the brakes! :)

In the rear, I began whit to put on new wheel bearings, brake shoes, hand brake cables and so on..

And in front, I got some ventilated and drilled 256mm discs.

Then I bolted up the carrier whit shoulder bolts, but it required a washer to centre the carrier properly.

And I had to buy a new repair kit to the calibra brake calipers because I got a kit for 54mm brake pistons… when I needed one for 52mm brake pistons..

So.. Now is the brake calipers in a little better condition than they was before anyway! :)

And here they are mounted. Right now i have only original calibra brake pads that are painted red.

But I havent mounted the steering joints and the calibra brake hoses yet.

And I also stuck on the radiator. The old radiator was broken, so I switched it out against an better used one..

Overview :)

And I also bought some parts for the exhaust system :)

are the drag wheels 7j or 8j? thanks

Post

Thanks guys! :)

The wheels are: Drag Wheels DR-20 15x7" Gold whit a 2.75" lip and a ET: 10.

And i also think its time for a litle update to! :)

To begin with, I have fixed the hoses to the saab 9000 turbo oil cooler.

So the oil cooler is in its place now.

And some "good to have things" before a eventual startup..

Then i would test to start it.. but it did not work.. hmm.. no fuel!
So i started to changed the pump relay.. that makes the pump worked anyway!

but still no fuel would come from the injectors so I changed the whole k-jet, and that did the job!!

BUT…the luck wasent for a long time.. The engine started.. thats good.. But either was the cylinder head a little warped!?,
or else it might was a wrong cylinder head gasket i goted that wasnt for a GTI!? either way,  it spurted oil and water from the bakside
of the engine against the torpedo wall (exhaust and intake side). So that sucks! A litle movie of the start:

Water and oil from the engine

Sooo.. I feeeeel a liiiiiiiittle tired! :/
But.. I took out the engine and the gearbox again.. (yes.. I have also put on a headligt and a grill on for the upcoming inspection)

And now I had two choices, number 1: Disassemble and repair the tuned engine…
or number 2: Insert an original engine that already works..
And since I'm pretty tired of screwing with the tuned engine, I'll will go for option number 2.
Sad but true .. but rather that instead of that the car will standing this season!
Other engine options will be a matter for the winter 2012/2013 instead.
So..I bought a 1.8 JJ engine :)

So.. this engine is original but the least I could do for it to live for a while longer and look a little nicer is to freshit up a bit.. and also serve it with a new timing belt kit,
water pump, spark plugs, oil filters, oil, spark plug wires, distributor, rotor, glycol, air filter, thermostat and so on
so that it hopefully would roll on for a while to!
Some of the parts (everything is not in the picture):

And some of the items to be aded on from the "old" engine:

And after rain comes the sun … a refreshed 1,8 engine in this case..

And in the car again! But not teststarted yet because a cable to the disturber is broke.

And i have also bought a "new toy" :) a 1996 Calibra Turbo

Regards
Tommy
