Golf 1.6 Diesel - now 1.9 TDI

Got a bit done this weekend :P

Started off removing the N/S wing, which was rotten at the bottom where it attached to the sill and full of filler where the aerial is mounted.

Revealing this……….

Got the jet wash onto the case and gave it a good cleaning, revealing ………….

Then it was time for a bit of sanding, treating with kurust, primer etc……..

Once dried, on went some more under body sealant………..

Earlier in the day, I'd purchased a second hand genuine wing for £20 and sprayed it in Monaco Blue……

Photo taken tonight of the wing fitted to the Mk1, hopefully when I get round to T-Cutting the bonnet and door it will look closer match   ……….

At the same time, I'd sanded the fuel filler panel, treated with kurust and primed, please feel free to read the match report of Telford United winning at Solihull Moors     ………

Top coat………..

Masking tape removed, going to leave for a while then cut it back  8)

Looking forward to getting the worst bit done……….the O/S wing, hopefully get time this weekend, but may get held up due to us having a skip delivered tomorrow and will be clearing out the rubbish that's built up in and around the garage

No interior yet, keeping my eyes peeled for any bits that may turn up, may have a carpet though, depends if the guy will post it  8)

I finished changing the wings and giving them some paint - Gammy style
Last week was engine service time and change the water pump, radiator, top and bottom hoses and fit a towbar.

This weekend was its first trip out, hitched with trailer and loaded with a generator, 2 gazebos, tent, cooker, telly, flags, food….usual show time equipment, she pulled like a trojan, but looked a little low on the rear, so time for uprating the rear springs, here's some photos of tonights work…………

This is how she is sitting with the generator in the back, with the rear seats folded down and the generator pushed forward……………

With the O/S rear spring removed off to the vice we went……

Spring compressors fitted………

Get a spanner to hold the strut shaft, then undo the 17mm nut……..

Remove nut…………

Remove tube…………

Remove cap…………

 Then the old spring……….

I had sat in the garage, the old springs from when I changed the springs on the GTi, which were way too high a ride for the Gti, so I'm using them to keep costs down, for comparison the Gti spring is on the left……….

Here's how it looks with the generator still in the back, looks a lot better and level with the front  8)  8) …..

Cheers for the heads up on the liners :P

I've been looking at Blans project, apart from the problem Blans had with the bottom ball joint, his is in far better condition than mine…replaced all the water hoses except for the one from the water pump to the head, guess what? last night enroute to the west Mids monthly meet……….the water pipe from the pump to the head split  :banghead:   new one on order today

Blans and myself, both bought ours from the Wrexham area, seems like a hot spot for oil burners  :D

My eye was caught by the pistonheads one, looked too good to be true. Whats the "rust in the sunroof" like? We need some more pics.

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

It was a German special order, with a orignal GTI Metal Sunroof.

Just a few rust bubles not too serious. Will start a new thread as i dont want to hijack this one.
