But here's my '87 MK1 cabrio, as she looks today.
The car has been in the family since August 2004, but still needs a lot done to her before I'm fully happy!
My dad bought the car in 2004, and drove it only in the summer.
This is how she looked back then.
Don't ask why those wheels are still on there.. They won't be for much longer. There aren't any photos of her then, until January 2009!
The Golf had been lowered (40mm I think), had crystal headlights, pressed plates and a debadged grille..
At this time, I was 14 years old, and my dad had promised me the car for when I turn 17. This also explains some of my style choices. The paint was looking pretty tired by this point, so she was given a blow-over.
With that came the crystal rear lights.. and the Le Castellet wheels.
The old, cracked, mouldy hood and headliner were replaced with a new mohair one, and the new stainless exhaust came! Not a fan of the tip anymore, but that'll change!
Over a few weeks, I changed the mirrors for flags, and the grille for a single headlight badged one.
And then in March 2012, I passed my driving test, and finally got the car!
I didn't change much on the car, seeing as I could barely even afford to run it!
So she pretty much looked like this up until December 2012.
In December, I decided to take off the Zender Z20 bodykit, and replace it with chrome S1 bumpers..
Part of me thinks I should've kept it, or gone for original S2 bumpers..
But I just love it the chrome ones too much! Here she is looking pretty ratty, with half a bodykit!
My bumpers took much longer to be chromed than I had first thought.. So I ran her like this for a while.
How I never got pulled over for lack of number plates & indicators, I don't know.
Then, eventually, came my bumpers!
The number plate was held on with no more nails tape..
Then I found some money, and treated her to new wipers, blower motor, mk2 wiper motor, infinity rear speakers, sony stereo, dynamat in the doors, cl splitter, Hella headlights, slightly tinted indicators, and proper bumpstrips for the S1s.
Now she's in the paintshop getting new rear arches, new sills, and a few things blanked and tidied up. Here she is mid-archwork.
And here is the old arch from the driver's side.. A souvenir.
She should be back on the weekend, can't wait!
But until then, this is how she stands!
Thanks for looking, for those who have!

Hope she comes back all sorted mate. I hate rust
Haha yeah, me too! The place I've taken her are known for being good though Bonding bodykits and trim on does nothing but create rust While it was up on the ramp, I looked at the underneath.. Couldn't find any rust whatsoever!

Looking very good, those arches were in superb condition Love the single light grille with badge, managed to win one on eBay the other day, hopefully arriving in the next couple of days before the moment of truth to see if it fits or not Fingers crossed
Haha yeah, it's not great seeing that every day, and being my daily, it's hard to find time to get it done!
Ah awesome, yeah it changes the car completely! Mine just clipped straight on, wasn't a problem

Here's hoping then… it doesn't have a badge with it (But I won one of them to for a few quid )
My cabby is a later one and Ive seen bits and bobs about grilles being different, guess there's one way to find out

You should make a progress thread for it, so we can have a proper look.. The wheels..

I dont think you can beat s1 bumpers on any mk1,cab or otherwise! I went down exactly the same route and never looked back so now i never retrofit anything to my cab unles it makes the car look older. Nicw motor dude.
Yeah, I think different bumpers suit different cars, and that the Zender kit belongs on a black tintop..
But yeah, I'm all for de-modernisation!

Bad news though, on the way home, the engine started knocking.. Took her straight to the garage, and they've called me to say she'll be fixed by monday. It wasn't lack of oil, apperently its a big end bearing!
I'd already started looking for a GTI engine too Here she is waiting at the garage.. Fresh paint!
