My Rivage Restoration

Ceri have you had quotes for a full respray ?

How much do they cost roughly for the future ?

Can't believe your car needs new paint it looks ace  :dontknow:

Resprays can cost anything up to 2k depending on what needs doing.

Luckily for me the bodywork is mint so its just paint which brings the price down.

Theres a few little marks on the car so rather than getting the individual marks done and having a mix of old & new paint I would rather get it all done.

Thanks ceri,

Your car sounds similar to mine with no rust or major probs, I just have one wee ding on the boot lid and a bizarre cluster of 4 or 5 on the drivers side front wing ???

I quite like the original paint even though the bodykit has been re done as some point and I had to get the back bumper done after a daft woman bumped me last year 100 miles after buying it  :banghead:

One day when everything else is done I might get it done  :dontknow:

Cheers chris

Right then I was able to take my Rivage wheels in to be polished today after fellow member AL Mk1 lent me a set of wheels to use in the mean time (cheers AL)

The guy doing them is really busy so will either get them back later this week or sometime next week.

Ill post pics up when I get them.

Hi nice to see another rivage getting the love it deserves, I have one the same but no way as shiney, any info on your gear shift knob would help me out as mine is well worn away. keep up the good work.

Cheers for the comment mate.

Its all coming along nicely but as you know its all time and money.

The gear knob was £30ish from the dealer.

Part number is:
357 711 141 A 1BX

Only 6 left when I ordered mine, so be quick.

Ceri.

when I read this I panicked… and phoned VW straight away!

ordered one.. they are £29.99 + VAT and I asked him to check how many were showing in stock… and he said 8

so you can make that 7 left now!

thanks for putting up the part number :)

No problem gfrankland.

Another little update.

Went to see a local car trimmer today (wish I knew he was there before I had my seats done)

I wernt 100% happy with the front seats after having them trimmed. The bolsters were a little saggy in places.

I never went back to the people who done them as I had lost all faith with them.

Anyway the place I went to today looked at the seats today and said they could sort them no problem and it would only cost me £50 so im very happy.

Cars going in tomorrow to be done so ill post pics up then

Where did you go Ceri?

Who did them originally and who said they could fix 'em…?

They were originally done with jack smith in swansea.

The place im going to is down by GSF in llansamlet (dont know the name)

Pretty sure its the place fellow member 'mortz' went.

Im happy with the seats apart from the base side bolsters.

You can see in the pic there are a few creases.

Im happy they said its easy to sort.

The guys doung it tomorrow said it is a good job apart from the side bolsters.

Now its only going to take a few hours to put right which makes you think why didnt the people just sort in the first place.

Its so hard to find places that take pride in there work.

Its as if they think, it aint there car so it dont have to be 100%

At least this time tomorrow they will be perfect.

The latest is going to be next week.

I'm totally with you on that one Ceri, I dont think anyone takes proper pride in their workmanship anymore…lost count of the times I have been disappointed with jobs people have done for me, the great british pride in our work seems to have vanished…….along with our spirit…..god help us if Germany tried to invade us again, we wouldnt stand a chance!

Got my car back from the trimmers today and there was a massive difference in the bolsters.

They had to undo the stitching and cut over an inch of material away (so you can imagine how many ripples were on the back of the base bolsters.

Anyway heres a pic of what they were like before.

You can see the ripples on the base bolster.

And this one you can see a crease on the right side bolster.

These are the new pics, the creases are almost gone.

The material is now pulled nice and tight.

The pic below is the bolster from the above pic.

Well ive booked an appointment with a smart repair company who repair dashboards ect.

I got 2 little marks on the dash (not that visable untill pointed out)

Been quoted £70 to sort them.

Thats the interior complete then.

Later this year im going to waxoyl the entire car myself.

Then the last thing is a trip to a bodyshop for paint, thats going to be right at the end of the year or early next year.

Thats it complete then.

It will live in the garage then and only come out in the dry.
