Arf's 2nd Mk1 Golf - 1978 Series 1 GLS

Post

Most people will know i started on here with a clipper a few years back, which i sold the other week.
Ive wanted a standard S1 4 door for a while now and I posted a few *wanted* ads around facebook and on forums etc

I got a reply from Rich B on facebook (bluey12) about the S1 he had for sale, which he told me was in pretty much original condition. The only problem was that he was 4 hours away from Bristol :(I booked a B&B on Friday night and because of rain and poor driving conditions on the M5 and M6 it took us over 5 hours to get there :(The place we stayed was brilliant - an old farm converted into B&B with a few classic cars n tractors dotted around. Full English breakfast as well as polish/continental meats/fish etc ready for you first thing in the morning :)If anyone is staying around Bradford its called The Model Farm B&B and prices start at 35 a night much nicer than a premiere inn

Morning came and after an early breakfast drove another 30 minutes up north to Rich's place.
Fell in love with the car straight away it was exactly what I was looking for;

1978 1.5 GLS
55,000 Miles
I will owner 4
Original condition.

Then came the most depressing bit of buying a car……..

A few £ later I was proud owner of my S1 which drove fantastic back to Bristol
230 mile trip from Rich's house to mine and it didnt miss a beat :)I am going to keep the car as close to factory spec as possible :)Heres a few pics

Nice one Scott, she's lovely. Must be weird driving with a 4 speed box, it's been years since I drove one.

Doesn't look like she needs anything doing, so that's a bonus.

I know that feeling mate. Coming back from ooop North a few weeks ago. got stuck in 35 miles of slow moving traffic which was caused for no apparent reason.  :P

You need to get some 70's style raised letter plates on that. Would look so good!

as long as its reflective background and stamped by postcode of place that makes them mate they will fine. At the end of the day original plates of that era would still be road legal :-)

get em bought !

Yeah they are road legal. I searched for ever to find a company doing the 70's style ones, this is the only one I could find. Was thinking about getting some for mine, but got some pressed ones in the end as I needed them next day.

But these will look the nuts on your s1!

Ok cool i might get some then i think they will look wicked :)Also on a side note does anyone know how accurate howmanyleft.com is?

Ive been having a look on there at Golf GLS and there are 3 registered 1977 2 of which are SORN and and 10 from 1978 6 of which are sorn.

So i could POTENTIALLY have the 4th oldest GLS in the country or look at it another way the 2nd oldest on the road :D
