wiring looks like a bodge repair on the rear lights, unless i have made a mistake on where they connect to.
all in all a solid shell there then, little bit of welding and she be a gooden
Yeah, it's the rear light. Someone has bodged the wires to the originals in some places. I think it might have had a speaker or something installed at one point too. Either way I'll tidy it up!

the extra wiring in the boot looks like it was used for towbar electrics and maybe a relay for the extra rear lights on a trailer. You can probably remove it all very easily.
I hope my new diesel comes up as clean as this one under all the dirt!

looking good, i have never carried out a resto yet but i woulsd say if new slam panel is easy fit and you are having some welding and paint done anywat get it done as least you know you have welded or replaced any rot bits, overall that looks really clean and fairly solid especially under wings, keep up the great work
rich
Thanks
I think you're right, Rich. Some of the panel was an advisory on the MOT a couple of years ago and although it wasn't picked up this year, it doesn't mean it won't need doing at some point.

That might make sense of the bolts too then? To think a 1.1 had a towbar!
I'm a cleaner by trade so enjoy making things sparkle again, however I don't usually find rust in what I do so this is totally different!

I thought I'd crack on with some prep work, which so far has been quite minor with the odd bit of filler needed, on the main body.
I really should appreciate how solid my car actually is but I just can't help finding more holes!
I know its a minor jobby but the welding work keeps mounting up and because I don't know how to weld or how much its going to cost I feel a bit
A new arch is needed too:
So far the welding work that's needed is:
- new front panel
- rear arches (a bit of fabricating rather than whole ones)
- two holes by the arches on the chassis
- rear passenger door (more fabricating)
- hole by the number plate light
- hole by the tow eye
- all the holes where a possible towbar was fitted
Any idea how much it'll cost or any offers to do it?

Keep up the good work!

However, I've decided that I'll do some gardening instead - I'm good at that and there's no welding involved either

Thanks for the boost! I haven't a clue who did what on my car as it's had 9 owners. I keep finding silly things like the lower trim screwed to the car or a 'hose' made from electrical tape

haha no probs. I had a fuel hose made out of electrical tape too how funny Same guy lol? Damn with 9 owners you wont know who to blame? Still its very nice and not in bad nick at all really!
wish I had a 1.1
Good luck with gardening I don't do It myself… Scared of worms

19 hours of work are needed so it's going to have the work done in a week or so once the new panels have arrived!
He's such a lovely bloke, I went to school with him and in the end he knocked £200 off and has given me free use of his spraying booth and equipment for when the time comes - no more Rust-Oleum paint job! :cheer: :punk:

I bought my arches from here: Classic Car Parts Direct
They have an eBay shop too but if you order through their website delivery is free
I also bought a new fuel filler neck which is the cheapest I've seen so far.
