'83 GX

This one will be familiar to a couple of people on here I think.  :D

As bought:

A couple of jobs were sorted straight away - inner cv joint, wheel bearing - followed by lots of enjoying driving the car before I needed to tinker with it some more.
So I bought some coilovers, gti alloys and a new grill and spent a couple of days swearing and fitting it all.

Hi mate, personally i think it looks great..

A lot better than it was, the chrome grille is miles better than Red, after all its a GX and should have the Chrome as standard.. Red is for GTi's and GTI wannabies..

The ride height looks good to and although I'm not a fan of Tarantula's on anything exceptGTi's they look good

Keep up the good work mate

Cheers for the comments guys

The grill trim wasn't actually red (the pics make it look like it was though), it was a faded orange colour and didn't look too good. And like lawsy says, a GX should have chrome trim (albeit with twin lamps…). I prefer single lamp chrome grills anyway.  :D

The wheels are just for this year really, there are some other bits and bobs that need sorting before I splash out on some expensive rims (might go for something like the Rota Rewinds in the for sale section). But the tarantulas are growing on me, I might get some lower profile tyres for them though.

Annoyingly I found the drivers side footwell full of water this morning so I've been trying to find the cause today, I thought perhaps a blocked drain hole?

check your drain holes in the scuttle tray for leaves etc. drivers side is usually because of water coming though the heater.

GX looks nice i prefer the chrome grill but would be tempted to lose the gti arch spats and put it back to the nice little spats on the rear archs.

personal prefrence though.

That's the plan at some point soon, the plastic arches will have to stay for a bit though as they are hiding some some rust on the front wings and front of the rear arches. Plan is to replace the wings (or repair them) tidy up the rears and either have just the small rear spats, or none at all.

Some random shots, I bought and refurbed a roofrack (off ebay + some wood and paint) and stuck that on, then tried to figure out some of the settings on my camera, more work is needed…

For some reason it looks blue here…

Pleased with this one though.

I wanted a change from the GTi alloys I had on the car, so I had a think about what I'd want on the Golf and settled on the idea of BMW E30 bottletop alloys.

So I got hold a some, they started off like this:

I think they are a nice design of wheel, they are just ruined by the huge tyres you always see them with. (In this case 195/60s).
I ordered some 195/45/14s for them, and then set to repainting them, I decided to go for gold centres and silver lips.

They turned out like this:

Cracking. Hell of a difference I reckon.

This morning I whacked them on the car.  8-)

Next the camber and tracking need setting. Then the coilovers might need winding down a touch…

Cheers for the comments! I'm really pleased with the wheels  8)

Not sure whether to bother with centre caps now though, (the BMW ones are too big I think) might be better without.

Today was a good day, the Golf passed its MoT with only one advisory, which was "four lowering springs are fitted"… Hmmm. Still, a pass is a pass!
