Which coilovers for bumpy roads

Post

I know this has been done to death but im trying to cover all my bases before spending out on new suspension. Im currently running weitec hicon gt coilovers on my 20v but im looking to upgrade. The car will be used on the odd track day but first and foremost its a road car. I don't run the car very low (around 40-50mm drop) but its getting pretty useless on some of my local roads. i.e wheels skipping over dips and crashing over bumps. Compared to some slammed cars I've been in the ride feels like a rolls royce but its still too harsh for me most of the time.

So im looking to upgrade to have some dampening adjustability. I was pretty set on going for kw v2s but there are some other options which seem almost as good for a fraction of the price. Mainly weitec tx (made by kw but cheaper???) or Gaz gha. The custom spring rates on the gaz sets looked quite appealing.

Im sure there must be people on here running Gaz gha or weitec TX's along with some of the other sub £1000 sets. What are they like to live with? On the other hand are there people running kw v2s or v3s on here who would you say they are more than worth the extra cost. Im not looking for a magical car that will go from complete comfort to roar track hack at the flick of a switch, but something usable on a track but really good on the road.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions, Mike.

I've been thinking about Spax RSX coillies for mine, they're a decent price as well. Krypton gas and fully Adjustable,  Spax were always the choice back in the 80's. I still might go for the KW's though, I like the idea of stainless steel struts.

Yeah, Hadn't looked at SPAX. You've just added another to the list. I've been seeing ST XA coilovers popping up on a lot of the shops aswel, according to the sales blurb they are made by kw and can "properly damp bumps without crashing or jarring". I was hoping that some of the people using these setups would chime in with what they're really like. I can read through the info supplied by the shops all day, but it wont compare to hearing from someone running them.

In the same situation here have a 2l ABF on bike carbs after just putting a set of vmaxx lowering springs on it's shocking. The previous owner had a set of ap coilovers and said that it was poor on those. So after a good set but don't have more than £800 to spend?

I think that ST are taking over Weitec. I recently bought a Weitec anti roll bar set and ST was delivered, which  is identical to the Weitec set.

For under £800, I reckon the spax rsx would be the best as they have all the features of higher end sets.

Has anyone got a set of the spax fitted? What's your reviews?

I`ll have to check what I have installed as I have only just bought the car, but its set pretty low and handles bumps pretty well. High speed bumps are always an issue.

I've got gaz golds on mine and had them on there for a few years now and can't fault them really comfy even when running really low on 14" wheels the adjustable dampening helps on them for setting them up for your needs
