Wheel sizes

Currently got some standard 15" BBS's on my Cabby, but would like to fit 13"s. Is this possible and does anyone have any experience of doing it?
Could always settle for 14"s on a low profile if not I guess!

The earlier mk1's came with 13" wheels as standard, with 14" as the optional upgrade/higher spec. My 86 GTi Cabby has 14" P-Slots which I think were standard for that time. They have 185/60/14 tyres. The wheelarches didn't change size so you fitting 13" or 14" wheels should be pretty straightforward.

basically it depends on how late the cab is and the type of wheels you fit.

early mk1 have more clearance than alter cab/rocco as they have a big hoop added on the front of the caliper carrier. you can swap the caliper carrier from an earlier car if needed. then its a case of the wheel design on the 13" some go on fine some do not (usually if they dont fit its becasue of the caliper carrier hoop i mention)

edit: this assumes you have the original 239mm brakes up front

It's an 89 cabby with fully standard shocks and brakes etc. haven't changed anything yet in the hope of reducing the wheel size. Cheers for the info, I'll have a look into what are available in 13" .

Sweet. Cheers Johnny! I'll have a look at the carriers tonight and make sure. While we're here, can anybody recommend a good set of coil overs as all I can find are race/fast road setup ones and I'm after something a bit less harsh. Don't want to drop it loads either?

if you're not after massive lows and want good ride as well as handling consider a good shock/spring package instead!
