MY CV JOINT DRIVESHAFT HAS RECENTLY STARTED POPPING OUT OF IT CONNECTION

HI IM DESPERATE TO FIX MY CAR FOR WORK AS IT BROKEDOWN TODAY AGAIN AFTER I THOUGHT IT WAS FIXED AND IM NOW PEED OFF AND WANT TO FIX IT MYSELF BUT I NEED HELP PLEASE GUYS

THE CAR CV JOINTS HAS BEEN RUNNING FINE EVER INCE I HAD IT, TILL THE DRIVESHAFT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE CAME OUT AFTER TURNING ON FULL LOCK THEN DRIVING A COUPLE METERS OFF THEN IT I HEAR IT POP OUT SORT OFF. THE DRIVESHAFT JUST SPINS AND THE GEARBOX ENGAGING.

SO ON INSPECTION WHEN I REMOVED THE CVJOINT AND DRIVESHAFT IT BECAME CLEAR THAT THE CVJOINT INNERS HAD COME APART INSIDE BUT THE END CIRCLIP WAS STILL ON THE END HOLDING THE CENTER CVJOINT PIECE FROM FALLING OFF PLUS THERE WAS NO SIGN OFF DAMAGE WTH ???? WHICH I HAD THOUGHT WAS GOING TO BE THE PROBLEM

SO AS THE CARS 20 PLUS YEARS OLD I THOUGHT THE JOINT MIGHT OF BEEN ALL WORN  DOWN SO I ORDERED A NEW ONE PUT IT ON FINE FOR TWO WEEKS SO YEAH SEEMS ALL GOOD AND FIXED HAPPY DAYS SO TO SPEAK THEN TODAY IT CAME APART AFTER DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ON MY WORK BREAK?

THE 6 BOLTS WERE TIGHT ON SO THATS NOT LOOSING OR AT FAULT

THE CAR WAS DRIVING FOR YEARS AND IT NEVER HAPPEND WHY NOW??? IT HAD A NEW JOINT IN AND I DONT HAVE THE CAR TOO LOW ATM?

Sorry mate can't help with this. Really trying to think what could cause this but can't work it out. Could the drive shaft be too short?

If not then surely something in the suspension setup must be really wrong to allow the joint to twist enough to separate.

Not heard of this happening before so lost for an answer! I hope someone can help you ;)

I mean i put on a new cv joint and the problem went away for two weeks????

my freind is handy with cars but lives far away he said if i put a new joint on then surely it must be the driveshaft at fault well im not too convinced atm as it looks fine to me but he said maybe the shaft is too small aswell but i cant see how its shunk because it was fine for 3 years no probs.

as for the suspension its got 2years old single adjustment coilovers with 5-7 mm camber adjustment which doesnt seem much of a cause of a problem there to me but would admit it if im wrong and when thats bolted to the wishbone the wheels ONLY bounce up and down if you know what i mean so how would that effect it

i used to ride it where the wheels would touch the bumber sometimes over bumps not stupidly low and it was ok no joint issues the joint done its job

thanks for your thoughts:thumbs:

Ah yeah if you ran for 3 years no problem then that's even more confusing as drive shafts dont tend to shrink!

If it's the outer CV joint that's the problem then has anything been changed on steering front that could make the wheels turn further than normal and then open the CV joint - can't see how though, I'm clutching at straws!! lol

Can anyone else throw some light on this??

Oh you may want to shrink your avatar pic a little as it's hanging over in to your text a bit ;)

took me ages to work out how to get that picture up lol when they change the site they redused the space so thats why its like that its still readable though init lol i cant be arsed to change atm my freind its its not to much trouble i will fair point

did you like that shrink joke then haha

and no one seems to know the answer to this one even garages seem mythed when ive spoken to them been recomended to change the whole shaft, check the engine mounts arnt cracked ,allowing too much movement ( i dont think its that )
chap said if i changed the circlip lock ring on the end i must say I DIDNT cause i thought the old one looked ok but thinking about its design is like a rounded key ring hoop with a gap to push it on and the new clip that come was a big proper circlip
so he said put the new clip on and see how i get on…… do i risk it or not seems plursable and the clip on it at the moment Maybe maybe could be the problem as it seems like mercanics are clueless aswell generally.

i just dont want it to pop out randomly in two weeks even with the new circlip or whatever randomly because thats just b s i want to be sure it wont pop out and fix the b stard

its actually the inner cv joint coming apart somehow sorry if i didnt say!

its cant be too too major of a fix though and ill hopefully get it sorted ,thought id share what ive learnt so far with you geezer

thanks for the support defo

Sorry not been about last few weeks - have you got this sorted yet?

I wouldn't have thought that the circlip is meant to take the full force of lateral load on it, just there to help prevent things coming apart but I could be wrong.

Come on folks, there must be someone else out there with some experience of this, or at least an idea?  :ocf_emoticons__dontknow:

Let us know how you're getting on with it ;)
