Advice Neede

Right, i'm a bit new to this all so please bear with me.

Have just purchased a set of wheels for my MK1, 6Jx13" front & 7Jx13" rear.
Car currently has 185/60/14's on Snowflakes.
Would anyone be able to suggest the right tyre sizes (i am not really interested in too much of a strech, but don't mind losing a bit of ride hight)

Thanks in advance
Mav

Hi Mav,

Depends on whether you want you speedo to read correctly or if you do not mind the engine having to do more revs to obtain the same road speed ?

The ideal size for those wheels (I assume the current snowflakes wheels are 6J) is 185x70x13 - that will give you a +1.9% difference, anything between +/- 2.5% is acceptable.

You rim widths are 6" (152.4mm) and 7" (177.8mm)
A 185mm tyre will do for either with no stretch.

If you kept the same 60 series profile and went for 185x60x13 then you would see a -4.5% difference, the speedo would read faster than you are actually doing.

I have 16" wheels on mine and run 195x40x16 which gives a -2.77% difference, which I find fine.

There are loads of tyre size calculators out there, try this one:

FYI snowflakes 14x6 use 185/60 14 tyres as standard and VW 13x5 or 13x5.5 wheels use 175/70 13 as standard so the speedo will read the same.
there is lots of wheel and tyre calculators on the internet to make sure you get the right speedo and mileage reading.
