Keeping Camber Setting

I am about to get rid of my cheap coilovers for some proper shocks and lowering springs. Is there anyway I can measure to keep the camber setting on the front wheels? If not is there a DIY way of setting it as I paid to get it all done professionally before.

What I basically do is make sure the car is on level ground, I then remove the front wheels and refit the wheel bolts to clamp the disc tight to the hub. Then I support the car on the discs, I then use a small vertical spirit level against the disc. Obviously there is no measurement but you can get both sides the same and tell if neg,pos or no camber.

So you put the front end down onto the ground on its discs?

I did say basically, no I put them on blocks of wood, at the same height they would be if in the wheel. Its just much easier to reach the adjusting bolts with the wheels removed.

I recently changed my shock and springs all round for 40m lowered. I tried as best to mark the camber positions but was still when rechecked at my local garage. The guy had the full laser alignment tools but could not get back to exactly vertical which he put down to the car being lowered, its not a problem with handling so I'll just leave well alone !!

i kinda do the same thing as abfmk1, but what i do is take the wheel off on 1 side only then put a jack under the ball joint. then adjust the jack till its the right height and finally adjust the camber, repeat for the other side

If you do change to the coilovers I would keep hold of the old springs, shocks and struts etc incase you want to change back at a later date.jayc said

Yeh I made that mistake. Chucked the old suspension, managed to get hold of some shocks and springs for £50. Then all the little bits like dust seals, bump stops and spring seats ended up costing me £120. Very annoying like!
