Coolant light flashing and oil temp high

Post

I've bought a mk1 golf gti cab from Rochdale yesterday. On the way home drove like a dream engine temp at 70-72c and Cooland needle just below half. It has samco hoses. (238 miles)

Today drove for 10mins oil temp went to 142c and coolant light flashing. Rad fan didn't kick in.

Pulled over waited 20mins to cool down, happened again, drove on further then completely went back to normal temperature wise oil 68c and coolant just below half.

My suspicion is thermostat got stuck, couldn't flow water through rad - meaning oil temp went high?! Fan on the rad not working I'm assuming is the sensor?

temps seem a bit low, you want 1/2 on gauge and oil temp around 90-100 when fully warmed up, maybe stat is missign or playing up like you say

Hi john

drained coolant replaced thermostat, coolant, fan sensor and coolant level sensor. All perfect and working a treat. The oil temp never gets above 74c, shouldn't matter I've got samco hoses does it?

Thanks again

Hi, I also have Gti cab. Oil temp almost always on 90c. Maybe replace oil temp sender as well - it is at the front of your engine close to oil filter. From memory part price was similar to water temp sender.
