My constant battle with the rubber carb mounts

Post

Hi people! I have constant issues with the rubber carb mount on my car, my current one has probably lasted a hundred miles if I'm lucky! It's really doing my head in, which are the best ones to buy, manufacturer wise? Is there any reason why it keeps going on me so often? Always just small heat splits!

Any info is much appreciated

Oh yea it's an 87 1.6 carb cabby with weber 32/34 dmtl fitted, it's a k&n fitted so doesn't have cold air feed and also have a stainless exhaust manifold so I don't have a heat shield either!

ive never had this issue

my understanding is there is only one manufacture of the carb flange as well

put the std airbox back on and make sure the steady bracket and rubber bush is fitted, that'll stop the carb flapping about plus make sure the warm air system is hooked up somehow to prevent any carb icing problems in the winter

Yea I do want to fit the standard airbox back on but I'm having trouble finding a complete setup at a reasonable price! On the hot air issue do you think I will have to make a custom heatshield to help things be abit proper?

Regarding the rubber mount, there are a few manufacturers to choose from; febi-blisten, meylee, and funkstar stocks one from JP. Any advice on this would be great

yeah you would need to get something modified to fit your 4 branch, keep an eye open for an oem one and chop it about till it fits. there are 2 kinds a big one which clamps round to the head or a smaller one which lamps to a couple studs on the manifold, I'd go for that type it'll probably fit pretty much straight on. I got mine from a mk2 gti and fitted it to mine with 2 jubilee clips, as both the studs on my gti manifold had snapped off. worked perfect on my 1.6 :)
