Ignition Cable Kit Query

Post

Good morning chaps,

I have a mk1 1.8 carb Clipper Cabriolet that is failing to fire, though makes every attempt to turn over. The spark plugs are new, as is the distributor cap and rotor arm, so my next port of call are the ignition cables, which I believe are original.

I've had a look on a number of websites but continuously find myself presented with a wide variety of options with different fittings and such, and due to a lack of knowledge, I'm unable to identify which particular leads I require,

I'd be grateful for any assistance that you can provide.

No 100 sure what year your car is as there is 2 types of fixing depending on the year?
later cars have a pin fixings on dissy cap,

Early car have this type of dissy cap and you have to leave the little screw on cap on top of the spark plug on.

I think you have a latter car with the dissy like the 1st picture and HT witch look like this at the dissy cap end?
And may be like this at the spark plug end?

If so you need this type.

Showing out of stock? Beru and Bosch are the makes to go for.

You can try www.vwspares.com but they are changing there website at the moment.
Bosch set which fit my 1988 Cabriolet but mines a GTi?

Items from GSF but don't know anything about the quality of the cables, and of the bottom 3 will fit later cars the difference is the angle of which the leads comeout of the dissy cap, straight up or at a 45 degrees!
The set at the top is for early caps as different fixings to spark plugs, dissy cap and Coil.

That's very helpful, thank you Mark1qls. My car was registered in '89, so I imagine that - as you state - the distributor cap will have pin fixings.
