Car not running!

Hello!

My car broke down on Monday which the RAC diagnosed as a problem with the fuel pump...

What I have done so far;
  • Replaced fuel pump with brand new one - car didn't startDiagnosed problem with wiring, ran a wire straight from the battery to fuel pump. Fuel pump works however car still didn't startFound fuel reaches the metering head with pressure however doesn't get through to the injectors which looks to be the problem
Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this may be happening?

Any help is appreciated! I am based in Bristol so if anyone knows of any garages that will also be useful.

Thanks in advance!

If it's not getting out of the metering head, not sure if would be the valve things themselves at the start of each fuel line? Also worth checking that the plunger plate  moves freely.

If I remember correctly on the black, square block where each fuel line connects, there's a small filter under each connection?? If so, these could be blocked.

You could try these guys - Waterwerks - Home

In Bristol - Tom is mostly on the MK2 Golf forum but a top bloke so am sure could help you if you get stuck as he'll know K-Jet :thumbs:

If you look at my thread Campaign woken up...... In Golf mk1 projects you will see some pictures of the plunger and meter head, but I would have thought they would only be stuck if car had been sitting unused for a long time, not just broken down, but worth try.

Thanks for your replies people!

Hairyarse, I've contacted that guy on Facebook who has come up with a few suggestions - thanks for that!

Rich, I checked the plunger and it seems to be fine.. The metering head was working Monday so don't think it'll be this…

Cheers again

Fuel pump relay? Have you checked that or shorted to 2 big connections on the fuse box with a bit of wire where the relay fits to check the fuel pump runs which the ignition on or engine running?

check the lift pump next, under the rear seat. with the pump relay bridged or replaced with a 17/18 relay and ignition on you should hear the lifter working. take a wire off the main pump to stop it drowning out the sound if its a bit loud
