Help needed

Hi all…have a mk1 golf 1.8 gti which I'm having starting issues..as in it won't start at all…turns over fine…have fuel…fuel pump seems to be fine as I can hear it kicking in..and the pump inside the tank has been replaced so that should be fine… The only time I have got it going is to spray a bit of brake cleaner in the plastic pipe which goes from the airfilter.once started seems to run fine….have checked the fuel filter which seemed fine..I guess that fuel isn't getting to where it's meant to be.. But am unsure of what to try next….any help would be great.thanks

Thanks for the reply.....Forgot to say have also just had all the injectors replaced..so they should be fine..but will have to check them out... Also have replaced the ht leads plugs , dizzie,rotor etc.. Would the metering head cause this sort of problem?.

the injector test will show if you are at least getting enough pressure to the metering head to open the injectors, as well as injector faults if there are any (shouldnt be as new!)

fuel metering head could be the cause, or the air flap, or fuel pump, or filter, or fuel pump non-return valve etc. see what happens with all the kjet tests and report back

FELLA TRY UNDER THE FRONT WINDOW WERE THE WIPER MOTOR IS ,TO THE RIGHT THERE IS A SMALL BLACK METAL PLATE UNDER THAT IS A LARGE BLACK PLUG JUST SEE IF THATS TITE IN IT GOES TO THE COIL   , TRYIED EVERTHONG COULD GET MINE STARTED IN THE END I CALLED THE RAC   HE SOLVED THE PROBLEM  

Thanks for the reply….have a flat battery at the mo after trying a few things ,will check it out once that's charged..did notice that the earth strap from that black box is not connected so will sort that out to see if that changes anything,and then go from there. Can't see where it's meant to go to tho,will have to try and find out…thanks again for the info

this is your spark module or tci unit, the earth on this plug should go straight to the battery -ve

Thanks pickle I think you maybe on to something there as after connecting/disconnecting the tci unit a few times I  have noticed that some times I get a buzzing noise and some times I don't, ive looked thru some old posts and found out how to check the tci to see if its faulty,so that will be my next port of call…thanks again people for your time…
