Hi Everyone,
im new here and i am restoring a Mk1 Golf GTi Campaign,
my first job is to get the engine all up and running.
my fuel pump isnt running….the relay clicks when i turn the key as it should do.
i have put a meter across the two terminals on the fuel pump and it is just showing continuity, zero resistance.
would you say i need a new fuel pump?
thanks

so, i removed the pump and connected it directly to the battery and nothing happened so this confirms the pump is shot.

Yes I guess so, At least you managed to get the old one off!
Before you fit a run the new pump check inside the fuel tank for rust/dirt (inspection hole below the base of the back seat) as you don't want that in the injection system.
Have you tired connecting up the old none working pump the other way to the battery? If the pump is just stuck it can sometimes free it up to spin.

Best to get a Bosch pump, approx. £100 ish but saying that I've known people fit this cheaper pump and had no problems with it?
