Mk1 rewire

Post

I have been having a few electrical problems and I was wondering if anybody knows how much of a job it would be to completely rewire everything in my golf and how much roughly it would cost as I think this is my best option. Cheers Sean

Hi Sean. Wow there's a question ! It would be a lot of work, not impossible but you'd just need to be methodical.

I don't know anyone who's done the whole car before so cant comment on time or cost but I guess both will be high. It take some research trying to source all the different plugs I guess.

its a good idea though and Im  sure someone here will have the answers for you

It will be a lot less work to solve the problems you have than remove everything and start again as you may create more problems than you have now...

Ok thanks for reply, will try a new fuse box as all the wiring has been cut and joined Many times over the years by the looks of it, at the moment she is running well but sometimes she won't start or cut out while driving, loose power, at the moment the brake lights are not working

I have just replaced the dash loom and it wasnt too bad.  I managed to source a decent second had one.  It was plug and play once the dash was out.  I made sure I marked up all of the connectors before disconnecting them but looking at it most of them only go to one place.  I think making a harness from scratch would be hard work.  Plenty second hand ones on ebay eyc which sound like thay may be btrret than yours.

if you wanted me to take on something like this i would estimate around 200ish, maybe more maybe less depending on the state of it. I don't rebuild entire looms though, just remove and replace damaged sections with fresh wire, if its really as bad as you say i would advise to get another loom and repair that if need be for you as it would be much cheaper than repairing a totally knackered loom.

if you really wanted a whole loom created from scratch that would be a fair bit more moneys! better to try to find another loom that is undamaged if at all possible or at least in better nick than yours which you can repair and refit.
