How do I change on MK1 Clipper?

HI

Speedo packed up last week and I am guessing it is the Speedo Drive plastic cog that has broken, as it was behaving strangely for a while.

I purchased another and went to change it, I am using a Haynes manual for a Scirroco that Haynes advised was the right manual for my model of engine (EX) as they never produced one for the clipper. On removal of the retaining bolt I was expecting to simply pull the cable out of the gearbox, but there is a rubber seal under it and on removing that the cable disappears into the gear box and cannot be withdrawn with the Speedo Drive cog on the end.

Has anyone experienced the same issue, or could offer advice as to where I have gone wrong?

Many thanks

Pete

The ones I've done under the bolt/retaining clip/rubber there is what I can best describe as a pressed metal "top hat" or "paint tin lid" affair that's only about an inch across but quite deep. These are often a tight fit and if you yank at the cable the plastic cogs comes adrift and drops off into the bowels of the box.

I used a thin bladed screw driver to prise under the lip of the "paint tin lid" to lever it up and out. Then the cable should be able to be gently pulled out.

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Thanks, did not notice that, will take another look!
