No temp/fuel gauge

Post

I had this problem before and it turned out to be an earth by the fuse box.

I've just checked and all seems to be fine.

When I turn the key to the first click a faint red light comes on for the oil but no flashing lights for the battery/temp gauge like it should.

Any ideas lads and ladies?

They worked intermittently but now don't seem to want to work at all.

Anyone? It's getting on my t*ts!

I had this on my GTI tintop - changed the voltage regulator at the back of the clocks and came back to life.

Worth a try. Not sure if your little motor has it?

Cheers Hugh.

To test the voltage stabiliser, connect a voltmeter between the terminals shown (see illustration) with a 12 volt supply to the remaining terminal.

A constant voltage of 10 volts must be registered. If the voltage is above 10.5 volts or below 9.5 volts it's time to renew the voltage stabiliser.

Thanks for replying, Hugh

I'm struggling to find info relating to small blocks so thought I'd ask. I hate taking the clocks out but it's the only answer I have at the moment!

He's recently clocked 100,000 miles. I think he's had enough. :lol:I'll try that this weekend. For now I'll fill him up to the top!

So, where do I get one of those things that goes on the back of the clocks? Maplins?

No but we exhausted all other possibilities so it's definitely that.

I'll get one ordered unless anyone has a working spare?

There is an earth wire to the rocker cover on the big blocks not sure if it's the same on the small blocks tho

I have one from the dizzy to the rocker cover. Checked and rechecked the earths but nothing.

My indicator light sometimes works but has gone dim now. The indicators themselves work fine.

I have the exact same problem on my MK1. I have ordered a voltage regulator and as soon as it arrives im going to put it in. I will let you know if this resolved the issue.

Fixed!

I went to Maplins and bought one of these:

Bent the pins to fit and he's back to life  :)
