I've tyred to identify the correct wires with a bulb when each function is switched on. think I've worked it out but need someone who knows wot they takin about to verify please. When I had side light on I had to wires that lit the bulb when I used an earth. This cont be right can it?

1st image is an earth, it connects to the earth terminal rose next to the fusebox.
not sure
brake fluid reservoir….i think
unable to tell, as its a poorly taken picture.

Scroll down to mk1 golf and workout the relevant termination of wire from the pin out on the coloured plugs at the back of the fusebox, they are numbered on the reverse where the wires go in…..look carefully.

1. as above fat brown to earth claw above the fusebox
2. goes to 5th injector thermoswitch wire on engien loom if its running a kjet engine
3. coolant level sender or brake fluid, depends on wire colour and which loom its on. if on engine loom its coolant, if lighting its brake fluid
4. fog lights

Thanks guys things make a lot more sense using the link sorted a lot out using it.

Another problem I've come across is my wipers dont work. I've checked the fuse using the link which is saying its number 11 but mine is empty and number 12 keeps blowing which is meant to be heated seats. Is mine wired wrong?

Anyone know how to test the wiper. I'm thinking of powering it directly but now sure which to live and earth. Colours I have are red,  brown, white, blue and gene.

Thanks

well to start with, put a wiper fuse in slot 11 and you might be surprised :P

12 also does the rear wiper, dont know how I've missed that one in my list so long the it must have come from a Jetta layout originally

so for that one start at the back and work your way forward, look for damage on the black/yellow or grey/black on the rear wiper motor, check in the rubber grommet between car and tailgate, make sure motor isnt seized etc and for general wire damage
