Headlights/Wiper Switch replacement questions

Post

Hi all,
I recently lost the full beams on my cabby, they flash no problem but pulling the stalk to changeover just extinguishes the low beams without engaging the highs. Armed with my trusty multimeter I checked out the stalks last night and the headlamp section on the wiper stalk would indeed seem to be the culprit.

My questions relate to the fact that I have an MFA, new suitable stalks are not available AFAIK and used ones are expensive so I'm wondering what my options are……
….. if I buy a new meyle or topran one can I combine it with my existing arm to add my MFA button to the new assembly, has anyone tried this?
Or if I get a used genuine one without MFA can I successfully combine the two genuine parts, what if the used genuine one or new spurious one is designed for a tin top and has additional positions for the rear wiper, will this still let me combine the stalks if indeed it can be done anyway?

Any idea’s, experience or input would be appreciated (or a cheap NOS MFA stalk even better 😀)

Theres a thread from 2022 maybe of some use……

Whoa, a thread from the future, cool

Thanks, but that mainly discussed fitting newer chunky ones, If I've no other option I'll do that but ideally I'll  try stick with the original design - thanks anyway

to confirm jump the red/white wire to the white on the flasher switch plug, if the main beams come on then yep your flasher switch is to blame. its probably just a dirty contact inside, they can be fiddly to strip down so make sure you have a replacment to hand!

A long while ago I stripped some mk2 stalks down to try swapping the mfa button over to non-gti stalks, but I found the non-mfa ones have the right internals to take the switch. mk1 may differ though

Morr do you have the 1/2 switch on the stalk arm or is it on the binnacle?  I have some a spare set of stalk switches in the garage if its on the arm.

can I be cheeky and ask for a link to that as I don't normally use fb and have spent the last 15 mins searching for that listing on several fb golf parts pages, but no joy…
