I ordered H1 Ultra Power Bulbs (Ultra part BU448P) , after a knowledgeable local told me these are the right ones. They aren't. They are the right size, and correctly single filament, but they don't fit into the sockets which are a different shape.
These bulbs all seem to go by H numbers. Can anyone tell me, please, what is the H number of the bulbs I need? The bulb vendor can't advise.
Thanks.

one in top one on each side,
You can google all the different types available.
H 6024 is the standard 7 1/2 bulb with the standard socket.
Most of the new COB type of leds use a 9004 style of socket.
Which ever type you go to, RELAY them you will get a brighter light and off load the high current
off the lamp switch.
But remember.

As you have a 1990 Cabby same as me do you have flat bladed connectors?
2 vertical on the sides and 1 horizontal?
If so get yourself a set of 'H4 Osram Night breaker' bulbs.
Very affordable and takes 5 minutes to change.
Check out this video.

Massive difference and no messing about with the connectors or wiring.
Put a set in my mk1 and a set for our 4x4 three summers ago and there still going strong and we drive with our lights on all year round.
Prices vary but here on Amazon.

A pair costs £14.13 with free post in the UK.

Take out what's already in and see what they are stamped with
Thanks, Early. I had assumed these were the numbers for the old (non-xenon) bulb. But it seems one is the size/shape no matter what the technology, which turns out to be H3 in this case, and a picture on Google seems to confirm this.
£8.79/pair

"H" are the old timey pinouts;
one in top one on each side,
Briano, those are the combined high beam/low beam headlights, i.e. the outer pair. I've been searching for xenon bulbs for the inner pair (Hellas) which are high beam only. The bulb has a single spade connector inside the rubber boot.
