Hi having trouble with the golf gti 1.8 8v I've just bought drove it from London Saturday just gone drove like a dream  no problem  since getting home I've been driving from work sat at traffic lights  ticking over no problem  lights change  try to set off and it cuts out try to start it fires up cuts straight out wait 5 mins starts first time no problem not sure if it's reliant but driving to work in the morning no problem only on way home only diffrance is on way home I have stereo on could this be connected or just coincidence.

It's a 1.8 8v gti cabriolet 1985 b reg carb.

maybe see if the fuel swirl pot is still fitted on the front of the head, perhaps you're having trouble with the fuel vaporising in the lines

For your info…. If the car has a carburettor then it's not a GTi as all Gti's came with fuel injection, that what the "i" means in the name. It could of had an engine change some time in its life or if it has a Gti badge on the back they could of been changed.
The best thing is add some details and the engine code in your signature then it's always on your posts like I have at the bottom of my posts.  :thumbs:
