Electrical Ignition Problem

Hi all,

Over time it became increasingly more frequent but now the time has come where my Mk1 GTI wont start with a turn of the key, I'm now having to bump it or jump the starter motor off the battery with the key turned 'on'

Any thoughts on what it could be? Battery seems fine as I have lights etc when trying and I clean up the earths whilst it was on the decline, can hear the relay clicking too so that appears okay. Ignition switch?

Are you sure the battery is OK - it is the most common culprit. If you have a charger, give the battery a full charge and then try again. If you can get it started, you should have about 14v across the battery terminals at idle.
