Dash, electric issues after conversion

Post

Just finished a g60 conversion into my mk1, engine starts fine, temp gauge works as of today and fan kicks in. Problem is when the key is turned to 1st pos the battery and oil lights do not come on, also rev counter and mfa works fine up until lights are switched on, then does not work. No front wipers although rear works fine. Really need to get the car up and running.
Any advice here chaps

Will the earth cause any issues with rev counter/mfa dying when lights switched on?

Depends if your light switch is wired up ok .  I know on standard 8v if the earth isn't connected to the rocker cover that can send your dash clocks out

Ok I will have a look and update ASAP, I also have 2 working ecu's, one I am told has been chipped and the other I believe is standard from the Engine that's in the car. I have tried both and the car starts fine, does it matter in anyway at all with regards to fueling and mpg at all

Thanks Mk1jim

Hi, also still doing my mk1 g60 conversion, had the same problem with the dash stuff with the lights on. Turned out the dash needs to be earthed to the side of the engine head/rocker cover area. Thought this was pretty random but some of the chaps on here know a lot. When I ran a quick fix earth wire from the back of the dash plug to the head solved this problem.
I also have your front wiper motor problem so be interesting to know if you sus it out. I'm not getting power to the block connector next to the motor. The wiper motor I know works by running a live from the battery. Indicators and Headlights both work, havent checked any relays yet though.

Oh yeah regards to the chips, theres a chap on dubforce who writes chips. He has a library of rolling road data from various different g60 setups. Basically your standard chip is setup to run the engine most efficiantly in terms of fuel/air etc.. for a standard setup, when you start changing things like charger pulleys, FMIC, injectors etc.. slight changes would benifit the engine so cars are plugged into a computer and rolling roaded and then a new chip is written once the best figures are found. Some of the older chips that went into 'chipped' ecu's can be a bit dodgy and fail over time. He can tell you stuff about what chips you already has if you see what numbers are on them.  Anyone please correct me if im slightly off.

if it had an mfa cluster originally the dash earth runs to the side of the head, theres a brown/white spade near the fusebox which then plugs into the wire which runs off into the engien bay with the engien loom
