Changing Headlights from RHD to LHD

Post

 Hi All,

I have a 1991 Clipper Cabriolet as you can see from the photo below ;)I will be moving to Europe (Austria) next year (depending on Covid-19…..) and I will be keeping my baby but want to change the lights to EU regulations for LHD drive cars.
1. Firstly, can this be done?
2. If so, I've seen on websites everyone is selling the "Hella" H4 headlights (are they the correct ones?), will I just need to purchase headlights for LHD Cabriolet or is there more to this and if so what else will I require.
3. Will all 4 lights on the front need to be replaced?
4. Do I need to replace any light fittings on the rear?

I appreciate any help or advice and where the best place to purchase them from  IMG_20200726_191255.jpg

Check the law of whatever LHD country you're going to, on rear fog light position

Yes, just as easy as swapping the headlamps over and getting the beam alignment done (which you would probably have to get done in Austria).
You don't need 'Hella' lamps - cheaper options are avaialable - e.g. https://www.heritagepartscentre.com/uk/171941753ar-headlight-assembly-for-left-hand-drive.html
If the current ones you have in are in good condition, keep them somewhere safe as RHD lamps cost more than LHD lamps!
I don't know if the inner lamps on that model of car are driving lights or fog lights, but I would imagine that it is just a matter of getting them aligned properly for LHD - not aware of Left or Right hand versions of those lamps.

My rebuild thread I will try and keep up to date: here

Hiya,

Sent an email to Heritage and they came back with this pair for the car

I'll ask them about the ones you sent the link to, thank you for that :thumbs:They did mention it would be easy to replace and the RHD lights I have now are perfect so will definitely not get rid of them
