Hi guys,
I have a question over whether it is possible to swap the outer case of an alternator with another so that it would fit into my 1.8 DX GTI engine.
The two alternators in mind will both work on my car, it's just one has the correct mounting whilst the other doesn't.
The intention would be to dismantle the alternators as much as getting the outer cases off and simply swapping them over with one another.
For reference the two alternators are both Bosch units, 55am and 65amp respectively.

Why not just use the one that fits? Assuming its the lower power output, 55A is plenty.

if they are the same make and similar type then yes chances are the internals would swap, but as above its a fair bit of effort. gives you an excuse to buff up and paint the casings mind
