The cable that tilts my drivers seat has snapped. It's the longer one that goes to the inner catch. I've taken it out and measured it at about 760mm long but none on eBay and vw her stifle seem to be anywhere close to this? Is there a different way of measuring it??? It's a 1982 mk1 gti with the grey striped seats. Any help appreciated.

Just use some welding or electrical wire. Or use an electrical 'chocolate block' connector to join the broken cable back together. I've even fixed with string before now.
One of the joys of MK1 ownership is that they are DIYable and you don't need expensive parts or a garage with a computer at £75 an hour to fix.
