Seat foam refurb

Post

Im getting my seats re-upholstered on my mk1 1989 cabriolet. Seeing as I cannot find any new seat foams and am going to have to get the original ones repaired, I had a thought. Would it be possible to buy just the side bolsters that fit the earlier cabriolets and glue them on or use them as a template to reshape the original seat foams? just wondering if it would work as I would rather fit brand new foams than repair them cos they still gonna be a bit saggy.

cheers guys

What year is the car and got any pictures of the seat?
You can buy them new from the links I've posted or I bought some seats from a Mk2 golf Gti for £1.04, and stripped the passengers seat and took the foam off and planning to replace my drivers seat foam (not found the time to do it yet). It's a straight swop for my 1988 Gti cabriolet as vw used the same foam.

i think vw heritage sell them?

found it, a bit more expensive than my solution….

yah post-84 cab uses same seat foam as equivalent pre-90 mk2, but obv gti foam isnt same as poverty :)

90spec mk2 are no good the foams are all different so watch out for that.

oh and g40 shape polo use the same foams also, maybe later mk2 polo as well but not 100%

If it didn't look like a hungry dog had mauled it I'd have suggested steaming it. Works wonders.

The foam does look simular to the foam I have, I'll try and get a picture for you but can't do it till the weekend.
Are you in a rush to replace/repair the foam? It did take me a couple of months on eBay to find the seat in my area.

Yes they are the same as mine, but mine is a 1983 one. What about your original blosters ate they that bad you can not re use them as it seems normally only the bottom seat goes.

Yes I've got the whole seat, I'm using the passengers seat foam as the drivers seat is ripped and the bottom seat bolster has crumbled away.
I'll try and post up some pictures.

I'm going to use the foam on my drivers seat in my 1988 cabriolet as its worn out after 263,000 miles.

+1 on using passenger seat foam. I've done this twice with ideal results.
