Rear axle bolts, meant to move?

Post

Hi guys, as the title really. Been rebuilding my rear beam and noticed something that concerned me. The long bolts that pass through the axle mounts and into the beam move about in the beam itself. They are rock solid on the polybushs and sleeves.

Should there some kind of collar or will they be ok once cranked up?

It is alright once it is done up, as long as you have all the correct washers - one large concave, after the bolt head one large flat after the bush, and the smaller but thick washer before the nut.

No probs. When I did mine I cleaned up and re-used the washers, but replaced the nuts and bolts - ordered from VW Classic Parts in Germany (I think VW heritage stock them now).

If you look in the haynes manual it tells you the angle the bracket which bolts to the car is meant to be.

Cheers for that, just checked my dusty old copy and your spot on. That'll be handy as I can check everything before I mount it on the car
