Clipper back window

Post

Hi,

I've just bought a 89 vw clipper cab, it doesn't have a back window in the roof. Can you buy a window to put in or does it need a new roof?

Thanks

You can buy the window and seal separately, check out a few traders on here or eBay ;)

Hi Amy,
Welcome to the Club.

the rear window bottom section is held in place by 2 brackets that bolt to the frame and the parcel shelf supports.
If there missing you'll need them.

Plus the top section is held in place by 2 webbing straps and dowel pins.
If the webbing straps are missing then it's top off time as the fixings are underneath the whole lot.
(See piccy at the bottom, you'll see the Frame with the 2 webbing straps)

It's a common scenario as the rear window frame rusts out folks don't bother to replace them.

The frame is made up of 4 sections

The metal frame (usually Rusts away)
The insert (the hood material is stapled here)
The rubber seal (speaks for it's self)
The glass (like wise)

You'd need to check what you have left as to the above.

Cheers

Chortle

You need the longer thinner brackets shown.

New roof's don't come with the hole for the rear window already cut, you have to cut it out but if you have the window frame etc already there and it's not rusted away your half way there.

Pictures of window frame with out the roof.

You can just see the end of the webbing which hold the top of the window frame in this picture

New roof without window hole cut

Cut here.

Then left with this befor seal and glass goes in

Thanks for the info! I can't cope without a window! Fairly new driver so it's a beast to drive never mind no rear view! I love it already!

Iv'e got spare glass and seal if needed, but no frame.

You just need to go see what you have left on the car and get back to us.

You will just have to drive everywhere with the roof down then you don't have to worry about a back window.

Who needs a roof anyhow? If it's raining the golf doesn't leave the garage!

You can buy a roof with pre-fitted window, however it's a plastic window.

Hola!

I've looked in the car, I have no brackets so will need it all! how much roughly does a window cost?

You'd need to source a rear window frame complete then and the brackets and bolts.
hibbs on here may be able to help as he is having a clear out at the moment.

Brackets here if hibbs doesn't have any however ask for the fixing bolts too.
