My parcel shelf was butchered by a PO to fit speakers, so i am looking to refurbish it with 6mm marine ply and the original fittings (Briano did a guide to this online I think). I want to use a carpet that looks like the original, it is black with a ribbed effect. I have heard good things about Woolies - has anyone tried this for the parcel shelf: Woolies – Trim, upholstery and fittings for Classic Cars

So this is for Cabriolet?
You can find "Boat" carpet, that is black, then if you pull the carpet off the Sides where the hinges hinge, and use the same color or match it, you will be good there as well.
There isn't a real "PILE" to it, it is more like a indoor/outdoor carpet. Thin.
My how-do-I-do-that and yes it was I is here.

As long as your parcel shelf "Matches" the side wings, no worries….
So it doesn't matter as far as the Color or Pile,,,, but
"Boat Carpet" is thin, and cheap…
For the Board I used 1/4 birch plywood that I had sitting around, all you need to do is to apply a couple of coats of clear urethane on all 6 sides, yep top bottom, left right top and bottom…. This will make it Water resistant.
Some Autoparts stores over hear carry replacement carpet in a roll for your Trunk (boot), or they call it trunk liner… and it is a thin indoor/outdoor. A good spray glue and you are good to go.
