Hi All, first time installing a cam. I installed a Kent cam to my mk1 dx 1.8 gti engine 1983.

I started it on the weekend and it was making a ticking  noise like the valve was could possibly be touching the piston.

I've now taken measurements between the solid cam lifters and the cam when at tdc , these were the results when cold..

Cylinder 1:
Exhaust = 0.38mm max
Intake= 0.25mm max

Cylinder 2:
Exhaust = 0.38mm max
Intake= 0.29mm max

Cylinder 3:
Intake= 0.28mm max
Exhaust= 0.33mm max

Cylinder 4:
Intake= 0.30mm max
Exhaust= 0.38mm max

On the Kent cam website it says VC= 0.30mmintake and 0.35mm Exhaust.

By VC I'm guessing they mean valve clearance, is this the minimum valve clearance that is needed? If you have less then these figures it's not good?

On cylinder 1 the intake is 0.05mm, if I minus the minimum required gap 0.30mm with 0.25mm from my Intake results. This then means I would need a thinner lifter disc?

Is this correct? any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
