Hi Dan you'll be more than welcome to join in no matter what your driving within reason!

I stayed at the Park Hotel which has the very best view of the lake better than even the famous Casino Hotel but will find somewhere else next year. The views are stunning but the prices are OTT because of that and that alone.
I did post up a couple of links early in this post to places that look fairly good and reasonably priced and will look into it again over the next few weeks.

But you really need to decide if you want to be down with all the petrol heads and being kept awake most nights or somewhere a little more sane. Of course budget plays a big part as well.

I will post up some ideas real soon and start a new spreadsheet as people book so we can via email share who, where, when, driving what!

Oh and I do like the joke "worthasee"!

I just pinched this comment from another post made by GGIFA  posted 27-08-2014.  :$

It relates to buying new headlamps but just goes to show what you can get out of a trip to Woerthersee, Austria!

" Finally with the nights drawing in and my son working till 11ish and needing a lift home decided last night to pick him up last night in the Golf.

The new lights I purchased at Worthersee were a revelation over the original ones I can now see where I am going at night.

So hanker down the hatches for the winter plan a trip with the help of GolfCabrio to Austria next May and hey presto your Headlight/spotlight problems are a thing of the past.

The Best bit is you can see the item before purchase and the drive to and from Austria takes some beating as well."

Cheers 'GGIFA' mate!

Welcome aboard charliemk1

I must apologise to everyone as I've let this slip somewhat.  :$
What with work, Family and everything I find that time is moving far faster than I can!

Anyhow, I will just get the next few days out the way and I can then focus on this as I should.
I'm going but it will be for a few days before the official 'GTI Treffer'.
It was so much fun this year I think it's one of the very best short Holidays I've ever had!

Right then with the classic festive season firmly behind us, time to get serious.

Here's a link to the home page and just take a look at this year's main poster.

http://m.woertherseetreffen.at/

So for those of you reading this for the first time.
This is just the most amazing event you'll ever have a chance to go to no matter what your tastes are when it comes to cars!

Some of us went last year and speaking for myself, I just had the best weeks holiday of my life and some.

Well I can't promise that for everyone but you won't leave disappointed that I do know!

So get your planning caps on and join us for a blast!

Out of interest we looked into using one of the motorrail services this year to get our cars to Velden. After 14 years of traveling we fancied trying a different way to get there..

Austrian rail kindly advertises a overnight train from Dusseldorf to Vienna as being only 89 euros. We thought this could be a hoot.

Unfortuantly the 89 euros only gets your car to Vienna, everything else is extra! After I added 2 human beings with a bunk bed each to sleep in the price came in a shade under 900 euros return! We would still have to drive to dusseldorf (4 hours) and then Vienna to Velden (3 hours)..

So we've now booked our usual Stuttgart hotel and reverted to driving the whole way as normal!

Important!
Right then now that all that festive stuff is out the way, time to get down to something a little more serious!

Just booked my accommodation for this year from Thursday the 8th of May until Tuesday the 12th and this is where you'll find me.
(I leave one day before the official 'Treffer')

Hotel Diana
Address:   Fronweg 30
Pörtschach am Wörthersee, 9210, Austria
Phone:   +4342722604

The Hotel sits back off the main road in the village of Pörtschach (5 minute walk), which is halfway down the lake on the northside.
10 minute walk to one of the Ferries that can take you to different parts of the lake.
Last year I stayed at the Park Hotel, Pörtschach which is a perfect location to drive from, good nightlife but not quit the lifestyle of Veldon or Reifnitz.

From this location last year, we had breakfast in Austria, took a trip to Italy for shopping and Coffee and then drove to Kranjska Gora, Slovenia for lunch and back home to the Hotel for early evening cocktails.
Does it come any better than that!

So who's going?

Golf Cabrio

Last year we stayed in the Hotel Diana the food was excellent and for a visitor the local dishes were a treat. The owner and his wife were very friendly. The hotel was used by various other nationalities all VW enthusiast we will definitely use this Hotel when we return next year.

On the way down we stayed in the Das Parkhotel am Tristachersee in Lienz I would also highly recommend a overnight stop here for those travelling down from the North.

Our Trip was

Day 1   Dunblane - Newcastle (ferry)

Day 2   Holland - Nurnburg

Day 3   Nurnburg - Lienz  (through Soll, Kitzbuhell  and Zell am See then up over Grossglockner pass)

Day 4  Lienz - Portschach am Worthersee

Festival

Travel back was a similar route

Day 1  Portsch am Wortthersee - Nurnburg  (NH Hotels Furth Nurnberg nhfuerthnuernberg@nh-hotels.com)

Day 2 Nurnberg - Nurburgering (2 laps)

Day 3 Nurburgering - Holland (ferry)

Day 4 Newcastle - Dunblane

Envious of those going this year will try and get some photos up this weekend. Will be attending in 2016.

On our way to (and from) Worthersee, we'll be stopping over in a few places. We have already booked some accommodation in Worthersee.

Can anyone recommend any hotels in the following areas:-
Wolfsburg
Munich
Stuttgart
Nurburgring area

Preferably places that are relatively car friendly (ie no multi-storey car parks).

Cheers

For Wolfsburg I recommend the Hotel am Markt in Velpke. Truly strange decor but it's very cheap and there's private parking out front (and a yard in the back they may let you use). Only a few minute's drive into Wolfsburg and the breakfast was excellent so I'd happily stay again.
