The 'UNOFFICIAL' Road Trip Wörthersee 2015.

Sorry guys. Porsche museum in Stuttgart were going to tomorrow, then hoying it down the road to the hotel in Worthersee.

Morning Guys.
Well the Sun in shinning once again so time to make a plan.
Just going to wake the wife up and tell we are going to do the 'Villach Apline Road' this morning and have lunch up there.

The Villach Alpine Road winds 16.5 kilometers from Villach-Möltschach (550 m) up on the Dobratsch (1,732 m), though not all the way to the summit (2,167 m).
After that maybe time to go to Velden again.

Small update.
Just got back from the above mountain climb.
The road goes to a height of 1,750m.

Simply mind blowing, most fun I've had behind the wheel of a car ever!
I've been driving 33 years and thought I'd done a lot but that was breathing taking.  

Stopped at P5 which is a car park at 1,400m and as I drove in I couldn't believe my eyes.
23 mk1's, 1 caddy and 2 scirroco's all parked together from Germany!  

I was in fricking heaven, even my Wife enjoyed looking at them.
But then of course she starting asking car related questions, like "Whats that big fat metal thing at the back of the engine, with the long pipe hanging off"?

To which I replied, "It's a turbo charger darling!"  

Anyhow I'll post up a link tonight to a folder on photobucket for you all to see.

Oh and see if you can guess which one I fell headover heels in love with?

Only found this place because there was a diversion in place for road works but I didn't trust the signs.  

My Wife saw the name first and not me and she's Austrian, so might have heard it somewhere before, maybe!

Try to catch up with you maybe tomorrow evening after our Tri Country road trip or Friday afternoon/evening for a while mate!    

We drive back Saturday lunchtime and I don't really want to do that with a mega hangover, if you see what I mean.

Stuttgart is now firmly on the radar too, cheers stretch  and there's a few passes that I've not heard of that look good too.  

I can't recommend going to Kölnbreinsperre enough - it's a truly awesome drive up the mountain roads (and the toll is free with a Kärnten-karte - your hotel may give you one if you ask nicely, otherwise it's incredibly cheap at 4 EUR per person). At the top just walk out onto the dam - all totally free. Don't go the wrong way and end up trundling through a tunnel bulldozed out of 8-ft snowdrifts like we did The tunnels are ace, all made by hand the old-fashioned way…

We've ploughed our way upcountry now, had a night in a monastery/brewery hotel in Bavaria and now staying in Leipzig so we can hit Wolfsburg tomorrow. Whatever you do don't drive through Leipzig in a Mk1, the roads are horrific! Convinced my wheels are square now…

That's the Malta Pass I keep banging on about… Its an awesome road.. I love the switchback in the tunnel. Did you do the skywalk? I did it last year and slipped on ice on the glass and sh*t myself

Brakes got a good workout, mind - washed the salt off the wheels when i got back and half of the water just boiled away…new pads when I get home!

We're going to gmund in the morning so maybe we'll get the chance to go up.. I'd love to hear the v8 in those tunnels!
