Struggling to find the correct part without purchasing full kit

How do I post a picture?  That way I can attach the screen shot I took on my phone as the printer wasn't working there.

I assume it is left and right on the outsides from the way the screen was set up.  The center one looks like an overall reading?  There are other figures on the screen either side of the main readings which I guess are the tolerances set by the VW spec.

reet! your mk1 is all over the shop, no wonder it handles like ass

camber should be sorted once you have the correct camber adjust bolts both sides, so get on the hunt for them. dont forget you need both the offset washers as well as the bolts!

now caster is what worries me they're both out but the left side is waaaaay out :(  what i would do is remove both wishbones and lay them on top of each other, to ensure they're both straight. also check the bush mounting positions, I have seen new ones supplied with the rear bush pivot welded on in the wrong place!  while its off look over the car for damage to the chassis points where the wishbones mount to, if they look bad then it may have been in a bad accident at some point.

but dont worry yet! it might just be you have a worn wishbone bush somewhere thats all :)  tbh if it was me I would just order a new pair of wishbones complete with new bushes attached, plus a pair of new ball joint kits compete with new bolts and washers etc then swap them over. might be a good time for new track rod ends too, will make their life easier when resetting the tracking.

note the left one might be fixed, if so only way to replace it is buying a whole new track rod, i would inspect both track rod ends now to see if they want replacing or not, if they look good and tight then leave those for another day.

finally ball joints can be a git to remove, but be sure you remove the fixing bolt completely as the ball joint has a slot machined into it so they'll never come out if the bolt is left in! I have made that fail before

this kit would be perfecto!

Thanks.

I will pass this info on to the mechanic when I book it in later this week.  Fingers crossed its not as bad as it sounds.  If it had a crash, that must have been a long time ago.

Is that kit everything I need?  Where would I order the track rod end?  Another link would be much appreciated.  Plus is there anything else I should order?

Your input has been great help, and the worst news ever!!, thanks again.

www.vwspares.co.uk/golf1.php ;)

The kit includes everything you need to rebuild the wishbones yes, you could just get wishbones and bushes if the old balljoints are ok though but thats up to you really. you can get them without just the bushes from the link above (or plain if you fancy poly bushes instead), but I just thought that since they didnt cost much more for the balljoints too may as well just get them!

as i say the left track rod is fixed from the factory, so you may have to replace the whole thing if its still the original, but I would check them for play/splits before replacing.

as for anything else that depends if anythign else needs doing! theres top mounts, bump stops and all sorts of other parts available, just depends if any of those things are worn
