She's over heating but only sometimes and has been in the garage now since last wed with 0 progress  

Thermostat
Fan temp switch
Blockage
Waterpump.
Airlock,
 
turn heating on in car and see if it blows through hot.

Flush rad through

Fit new thermostat and pump

All fairly cheap to do

yup that is exactly what I have checked water is now circulating but it wasn't the other day fan comes on and pump seems to be ok

Heating is the weird thing it has always been hot no matter what position its in but I had some wires sorted going into the fuse box and then the heater was constantly cold. Now the heater is hot. The over heating started about the time the heating stopped working properly but surely the heater wouldn't take enough heat away to stop it over heating.

I think its the thermostat which is going to be checked on Tuesday unfortunately i dont think she is as far up the priority list with my mechanic and seems to be getting dropped down the list of things to do which is annoying me quite a bit

Mine was overheating not too long ago, so I brought a new fan as this old one was tired, then brought a thermo-switch that turns on at a lower setting then the standard one(10c~15c) lower. I also wired the new fan as it has two speed settings so it only fires on full.

It's all running fine now like, the temp gauge inside the dash only hits around middle but before it was going three-quarters or most times about four-fifths of the way up an you could see steam sort of slightly pushing out the rad when around town.

Next for me it's replacement of all the rubber coolant hoses an the water pump, GSF sell a premium model for about 34.20, while your there ask if they have a lower set thermo-switch think mine cost about 5quid. And there's an even lower set thermo-switch for about 15quid but that's an import from a german company I'll see if I can find the link for you, but ATM I think I've lost it.

Shhh don't say that, but sod it I've a sorted roof now so it should be okay..

Well just trying to order a new bearing,cv joint an get some suspension on the car sorted..

After some abuse and teddy's getting thrown from the pram the thermostat should have been replaced today but now it will be tomorrow

The weather is soooooo nice and im missing out although I did drive her topless to the garage last night and made him drop me home in it as punishment but I think he was having way too much fun !!

So you've a heating issue, taken it to garage, they've had it for quite a while now.. An only changed the thermo switch..

Which garage is this, just so I don't ever take our car there… …
It's a ten min job, tbh not that I'm any kind of engine bay hot-shot but come on, he's taking the biscuit along with the tin and the rest of the munchies cupboard! I'd be asking questions..

Let's just hope you don't get dumped with a 100quid plus bill for the installing of that switch along with a bill for having the car their so long! I hope you get this issue sorted soon! ESP as it's so nice ATM!

Tell me about it, I managed to do it without even having to change the coolant, I think I only dropped about 100ml or so into the catch tray below the rad an I'd never done it before then.. On any car really let alone my golf..

Sounds like a nightmare garage that one!!!  Feel for ya Danish!!

My MK1 is running pretty well but get a grumbling sound when accelerating…. think I might replace the front bearings and check exhaust isn't touching the floor pan  :dontknow:

Yeh I know thats y teddy's got thrown on Friday but tbh I have had worse probs with mechanics round here 1 which i shall name as Bedford Bike and Car (as advertised on Heart radio) swapped the wrong ball joint on an MOT made a slight water leak worse by in his words bodging it   another refused to swap like for like brake discs in his words "your not using it on a track"  yes but stopping would be nice too

He's not gonna rip me off don't worry I think he values his life too much! We decided to change the thermostat coz we can't get it to over heat now so seems the most likely thing. They have contracts with companies to service and MOT HGV's etc so as my car isn't needed for work it isn't a priority plus his uncles van has been sitting there waiting just as long

Just gonna leave him with a set of keys and tell him to take it when he has time to sort the other bits out lol as long as its not the 1st Tuesday of the month!
