Cambridge Meet, Saturday May 5th

Right guys and gals - the pub are happy for us to meet there

Here are some directions to supplement Glen's map:

A14 East (towards Felixstowe)

Leave A14 at junction signposted Fen Ditton ? B1047 (it?s the junction after the big Milton/A10 junction ? you?ll go under a big cycle bridge)

Turn right at top of slip road (towards Cambridge)

Turn Right down High Street and keep going following the road round to the right until you can?t go any further?you should be in the car park!

The postcode for The Plough is CB5 8SX for any of you that want to double-check or come from a different direction!

See you all on Saturday!  :D

Hi

Hello All,

Have just joined the 'club' and live in Cambridge so was hoping there may be some space for a newcomer at the  meet  at The Plough this sat - didn't want to just turn up uninvited?

Cheers

Thanks!!

I live off Newmarket Rd, near the River so it's just round the corner for me - so I (hopefully) shouldn't get lost.

See you Sat.

Woohoo! Think we're the only two members on here from Cambridge - I don't see many mk 1s and if I do the people driving them don't seem to realise why I'm waving at them!

I'm often around Newmarket Road as I work on the Science Park and go to CRC two evenings a week so I'll look out for you!

What do you have? tin-top / cabbie - colour???

Thanks Ew

Thanks, really looking forward to it.  I'll be coming along in my Mk1 Rivage I've just got…

Quick question…would anyone be able to advise me as to a good local VW specialist in the Cambridge area, im a little worried as my engine started up with a (loudish) tappet sound yesterday after being left for a few days, its only done 60,000 miles and stopped all most straight away, so im not sure whether it's just a lazy oil pump or something more serious. Nonetheless I have heard stories about failing oil pumps and subsequent engine seizure so would be grateful for any experts advice out there. cheers  :D

I've heard good things about Type 3 Detectives (T3D) in Burwell - they do aircooled and watercooled…

Personally, my dad does all the work on mine so I don't usually need to take it anywhere - I'm sure the knowledgeable bods there on saturday will be able to tell you what's wrong anyway!

I always take mine to Vindis if its something urgent / my dad can't do the work (I know the Service Supervisor though so its not as expensive to me as it should be   )

Thanks!

Thanks Rachel!!

Yeah, I expect they'll be plenty of experts who tell me what the probs are.  I'm just hoping there aren't too many as I spent (for my age) a fortune on the car and was hoping it was one of the better ones out there.

What does Vindis charge p/h - when you don't know them :)

Think its ?80 or ?90…too expensive for me!!! If you do take it there then try to speak to Richard Evans (you could tell him that you know me - Rachel Dilworth - i doubt you'll get a discount but you could tell him i recommended you) - he may just ask someone to take a quick look while you're there and give you a better idea of what's wrong…he had a Mk2 GTi 16V til not that long ago so should have some idea as they are hardly different from the later cabs.

Good luck!
