Looks pretty mint solid mate
I'd love a go in one of these or a country.
Getting rare now

Just starting to organise routes etc for the Road trip my lad and I are going on in the Syncro to watch the Swedish rally in 2016.

Came across this clip  and saw the steering wheel and thought "ohh a VW!" then looked closer at the glove box and saw it was a MK1! Then another surprise at 3.50!

Think we might go to that stage as it crosses into Norway and is just 3 degrees below the arctic circle:cool:.

Want to do this stage as well.

Colins Crest is about 8 minutes in. I feel worn out just watching it!:P

Quiet day today so decided to change the clutch and carry out a few other jobs to make it as reliable as possible for the road trip next year.

IMG_4566.JPG

The clutch isn't slipping just very heavy on the pedal putting strain on the cable and my left leg!. I guessed it was probably a build up of dust in the clutch as it has no where to go on these ( what I call back to front clutches) The flywheel just holds it all in.  Original clutch not so bad after 140K. Not sure what causes the stiff pedal. Maybe the spring pivots get worn in the cover plate?

Dusty clutch!…………

IMG_4564.JPG

While its apart, it's getting a thorough clean, new water pump, new rad, front wishbone and arb bushes, new brake back plates, new discs, sump off for inspection, new block core plugs, new clutch cable.

Think that should keep me quiet this weekend!

Been buzzing around in the Syncro for a few weeks now giving it plenty of abuse and have sorted out most of the little minor jobs it needed.

It now runs sweet as a nut and feel pretty sure it'll get us to Sweden and back come February although I keep toying with dropping a 2 litre in it.

All the spots are wired in and I've upgraded the headlight loom, the alternator to a 90 amp and upped the cable diameters on the heavy current wiring. It certainly makes people dip their lights when I'm coming!
Fitted some GTI seats as the Syncro seats are pretty unsupporting.
Its got Koni Gas shocks front and rear, All bushes and ball joints replaced on the front and wheels laser aligned.

Just need to sort out a radio.

Its been quite handy to visit a mate who lives on a dairy farm whose just had an op and can't drive. It saves getting the van dirty up the mile long track! Can't help driving it like a rally car though!:$ 009.JPG 009.JPG

A week to go before the road trip! The Syncros ready to go!
Spent a few quid on it over the winter replacing bearings, bushes, its got koni gas shockers all round.
New winter tyres.
I rebuilt the rear diff as that had a small whine with new bearings etc.
DAB radio fitted.
Traced the constant water leak to the rear door liners being badly refitted at some point so have replaced those properly.
I've spent hours and hours on this thing!
So the plan was to start loading it up this weekend until this week when completely without any justification or even seriously wanting one I bought this…………

Now I can't decide whether to take this or stick with the original challenge of the MK2. The R32 is such an effortless car but its no challenge!

Which one should I take? Seems a shame not to take the syncro after having so much work to it to make sure its going to get us there and back but I guess there's still no guarantee! The 32 will be a real mile muncher!

I'd take the Mk2 because as I always say "I like a challenge", why the heck do you think I live in Austria!

Go for it.

It's really tempting to take the 32, but Mike, I think your right about the challenge. My lad is seeing it differently though!

I'm not going to be too fussed if the MK2 gets knocked about or damaged which is likely on a trip like this.

Either way I'll get some pics up of the trip as we go.
It's been hovering around freezing there at the moment so I'm hoping there will still be plenty of snow.

It won't be a challenge in the 32 and you definitely don't want to bend that one.  :o
So I suggest you just tell him to suck it up and don't be such a big  :ocf_emoticons__cheer:

You don't want to get back home thinking to yourself, oh I wished we'd done in the Mk2!  ;)
