My trailer project "CARRYOLET"

Post

Hi all of you,
I owe a 1992 mk1 Clipper , a Model "Fashionline". I bought it 2008 when my former mk1 broke down.
In the past years I fitted some gadgets in it; electrical central lock, seat heating, motorized antenna, wooden steering wheel, wooden shift knob, hood lifts, 60/40 lowering kit, car alarm .. and polished the original rims.
When all this was done ( and it took several years ), I decided to let it as it is.

A good friend had an accident with his mk1 clipper ( no injuries :-) ) and crashed the front of it. There was no chance to rebuilt it.
I splitted the car just behind the doors and took the backend with me to built a trailer.

At first, I went to the "TÜV" .. same as your MOT ? .. to check out the technical laws ( it`s not that easy in Germany to built a vehicle on your own )

next work was to strip off all unusable parts:

.. refit wheel arches and other rusty parts

welding, welding, welding …

replacing the inner stabilizer to get a flat bottom

and more welding

.. one of my former jobs was aircraft-mechanic .. good for new ideas ;).. next step: the skin for the front

last year ( in the meantime I had a 365 day break ) I took it to the "TÜV" :

.. everything OK .. he got the sticker for 3 years ( only new cars can get 3 years currency, the other ones are only good for 2 years )

now: paintjob

building the hood:

First time ready:

one season coloured in matte grey .. had a lot of fun with it.:cool:In december 2014 the step of bodywork:

after all this was done,- i took him to a paintshop :

.. three weeks later:

  project finished!
330 kg net weight, 600kg total weight ( behind our clipper only 500kg allowed )

…what`s next?  … :P

This looks absolutely amazing ! Lots of hard work has gone into this by the looks it.

I understand about the TUV seeing as I lived in Dortmund for 6 years, maybe it's time for a true road trip to the club Agm at uttoxeter 10-12 July haha

Cheers, Dave.

Absolutely brilliant, fantastic work and effort.
Living in Austria and the fact you dealt successfully with the TUV I take my hat off to you!
