Mk1 3 door tintop

Ok, so Iv never got round to making a build thread before and I thought with just having got a new project it was about time I started one. Anyway about a year and a half ago I bought my first Mk1 it had been sat in a garden for 8 years and it wasn't in the best state although having wanted one for years it wasn't going to stop me from snapping it up. The plan was to get it ready for my first car as I was only 15 at the time, I got it home and set about lowering it and slinging a set of wellor steels I had on it as I didn't know anything about engines. I painted it primer and after that I got bored of it as I had no money to spend on it being so young so i set about selling it. Once it was sold I knew I needed another and set about looking for one which failed as I live in glasgow and they were all to far away or cost to much and ended up settling for a mk2f polo saloon which I ended up selling again to try find a mk1 and eventually I found one close to home and snapped it up.

Anyway heres some photos of my old one and my old polo

And a couple of my saloon I bought as a bare shell and put everything from suspension to an engine in it

anyway yesterday I got my new golf home it's not that great but I'm loving it

As you can see it needs a fair bit of work but the fact the old guy hasn't washed it in about 5 years doesn't help to start with I set about cleaning the interior and fitting my steering wheel as it was a complete riot!

Believe it or not that's it having already took some of the rubbish out

I gave the out side a quick was down still needs a good t cut and polish

Looking good mine was sat for 9 years before I got my hands on it same as yourself I always wanted one so the rusty body and other issues didn't bother me but slowly getting there, just need to stick by it and do what you can it's really makes you learn so much new things when you work on projects, keep up the good work and will be looking forward to more posts

Cheers mate photo bucket worked a treat, yeah I'll probably get someone to do it for me as a few of my mates are painters I just like the idea of giving it a go. Mines runs quite well surprisingly and has mot till like November, the old guy I bought it off was a mechanic so the engine was kept good but I'm still gona do a service and change the timing belt.

Looking good, it has cleaned up well, I need to do my timing belt to will try this myself before I put her on the road, there's a write up on here you will find it in the how to section in how to get the correct timing but also shows how to change belt, so will attempt it myself hopefully but that's the joy with engines with bit of space you can work so easily in them, like my neighbour saw my engine and was like these days new golf engines are packet out with the old mk1 you can see everything mostly in view which I like as I hate working on engine that you can't see half of it lol keep it old Skool

Managed to get some more work done today set about cutting and polishing the car some parts came up better than others hoping to get my hands on a machine polisher to get it looking better. I also tried on my old wellor steels that I had on my old one and I'm now debating flinging them all on as Iv just ordered coilovers so I could have it sat like my old one.

hopefully get a few of the rust spots painted over the weekend and my coilovers should be here Monday so I'll get them on and get it sitting better.
