Hey guys!!
been wanting to do this forever and now FINALLY, i have the time and the car to do it :hurray:  :hurray:  :hurray:
I sold my g4 gti a while ago and while searching for a new car i came across this neglected citi ..owner said the car had a bearing knock and he wasnt interested in repairing!! SWEET!!!!
Anyhow after some negotiating i got it for a real bargain and took her home

YUMMY!!!

DEAD engine

aaah the joys of having a friend with a tow truck anyway i got it back from there and even tho the arms werent 100% straight i think theyl be good enough..also cut out battery tray my garage started annoying me ..all i want is to open up my doors and work without having a pram or cot or boot or something fall onto me…sooooo i decided enough was enough :hurray:  :hurray:  :hurray:  :hurray: storage room just for you dear and this for me

got a FI tank and agu intake in the meantime

old

new

could come in handy if i do the aeb/apu motor

now im an auto electrician by trade and one of my reasons for doing this build is to get my hands accustomed to doing something other then draadtrek
so i know this mite be a bit unnecessary but ya i started doing it anyway

again wasnt probably neccessary but i thought id do it anyway..plus its going to make life so much easier

the brain

i was very much set on doing the vr6 disc upgrade but i liked the goldwagen 280mm setup a bit more..sooooo

mountings are here :) :hurray:

been looking for this for a LONG time!!got a real good deal!no wiring but that shouldnt be a problem..

im a BIG fan of shaved engine bays and i really want to clean up as much as i possibly can..so i thought long and hard about this and then took the plunge..

OBVIOUSLY…

WHAT A JOB!!!!
but if its going to look ANYTHING like this..then its worth it

abf cable shift box…also bought from sarel..he says its been worked but tbh i didnt even ask what exactly..i remember reading something of rivets being changed to bolts on the diff so i suppose thats whats done

got quite a bit done over the w-end…my good friend came over to help finish the rotisserie!!

and after ages of planning this, it has finally come together  :hurray:

it was a MISSION of note getting the car onto the stand!!i cringed like crazy..
i eventually plucked up the courage to get my ass under the car and started stripping the front suspension and steering rack out

Nicely done thus far. What the latest ?
thanx man!!
latest is ive moved to a new home so my project got delayed like crazy..but i did get it to the panelbeater while i was moving. just need to get suspension bits sorted now and then get it on the ground .. pics as is

closed off back door handles

spare wheel well outta there

things should start moving over the next two weeks

CANT WAIT :troll:
small update

got the car back on the stands and managed to roll it on its side
freakin scary stuff!!!!!!

tomorrow we clean and spray her belly :hurray:  :hurray:

does this stand look suspect or can i feel safe sitting under it??!!!

:hi:

so i didnt get as far as planned today as the spraypainter couldnt make it..took some time to clean and put some rust buster on the odd spots

this is just surface so im not going to worry too much about it

its white underneath all the grime

cancer treatment…i smeerd this stuff wherever i could

tomorrow ,if all goes to plan, il strip the rear suspension out and stonechip under and the wheel arches

you guys think i should do color underneath or should i just spray it black and maybe do arches in color?
thanx for looking

small update
i got tired of waiting for the spray painter to come help with the stone chip so my bud and i thought we would give it a go..first time in my life im spraying ANYTHING  but i must say im pretty impressed with the outcome…

i decided that spraying color underneath is just a waste so i want the stonechip to bake tomorrow and il decide if its necessary to add some of this just to give it a nice shine .. will do the wheel arches regardless..

also received a nice parcel today :):):)

thanx for looking peeps
pls feel free to give your 2c on anything i mite be missing or should do
some updates at last

l'l let the pics do the talking as usual

BOSCH 044 PUMP

big thanx to ashley at goldwagen delarey
tie rods, poly bushes control arms etc…
i also bought an OEM steering rack at the agents….R850

finally took the sump off my motor .. happy with what i found

only the best

last nights work

hopefully tonight il fit front suspension

hey guys
some work done this weekend..nothing big yet but atleast something

had tank pressure tested-
i cleaned and sprayed it

then fitted it

hey guys
got the pump bracket made up over the weekend

used some flat bar and threaded rod + a coil bracket. simple but i think it should do the trick

HEY GUYS
got my hands dirty today
started by cleaning and spraying the filler neck

installed pump and fuel lines..

im not happy with the rubber fuel lines from the back to the front..i knew i shouldve gone with the steel lines :bang:
but they just going to have to do for now as i really want to get this car off the stand soon

lastly i got the rear suspension in

hope you guys like!!

some assembling done tonight

couldnt get the lca bush in on the other side :bang:
loooong day so il make some more effort later..also got new camber bolt at goldwagen as one of mine were stripped..only R200 for a bolt 2 washers and a nut :lol:hey guys

some work done recently..
i waited a long time for these oem handbrake cables!!thanx alron!!

i decided to bend my own steel fuel lines..TERRIBLE job!!! i spent hours trying to get these pipes bent properly..doesnt look very nice but i think they'l do the job.

front brake assembly

the brackets i bought at goldwagen were not fitting too lekka so i had to grind away slightly on the bearing carrier..perfect fit after some negotiating

the disc is kaaaaak close to the brake cage
do i grind a slot in there or what??

first time ever assembling brakes so pls let me know if you guys see something suspect

thanx for looking!!

Ahoy my mateys something worthy of updating i guess finally got the rear brakes sorted after struggling with inferior quality parts…first i bought those "WAG" goldwagen wheel cylinders…my God the agony… these things would not even fit where they supposed to mount..then the spring kit for the rear wheels :bang: again such cheap stuff..luckily i had a buddy with a smashed velocity and i stripped everything i needed out there and managed to find ferrodo wheel cylinders :hurray: pics  handbrake cables are put correctly now :moon: i was told at the agents the original mk1 8mm fuel lines were no longer available so i done the whole self bend lines..they really could have worked but they didnt look the part to me…so i searched and searched and finally got the part numbers which i passed on to mr alron and bam next day they were here :hurray:  :hurray: dont know how many of these are still available but here are the part numbers return- 17s 201 361b feed- 17S 201 217B R290 for both… so now that the bottom of my car was finally sorted i managed to get her back down to earth..first time standing on all fours in MONTHS. even got some low  chapter 2 to start as soon as i can figure out what next  shot for looking guys! and thats where i am at this point in time!! any advice welcome!! shafiq

Great build there - the fuel lines didn't look so bad first time but the latest ones are better

You could have put fish in your wheel well instead of blanking it off, there was a lot of water in there!

Liking the blanked off door handles too, nice idea

Gentleman
came very close to throwing in the towel on this project
EVERY flutten thing i do ends up being such a shlep

anyhow i have some updates-

started with the fitting of the dash…my dash came without most of the brackets so i had to locate them..actually got a few at the agents but after a moerse struggle with trying to get part numbers..even got the two center parts that are originally welded to the body

shaving the original steering bracket

then cut out all these original dash brackets

then welded the others in and bolted the side brackets up
left side

center brackets that were welded in

pipis on top also welded in

right side bracket

result–(will align 100% when i do final install)

next up was the hydro clutch
buddy of mine had a few of these lying around so i traded him this for a copy of autodata

i made a template of the rear of the pedal and then cut a 2mm plate to reinforce it against the firewall
(again il add some more pics later)

not very proud of this lol but im going to make some sort of cover to hide it(clutch line going to run inside the car)

Love the Citi Golf Dash, looks good fitted, I would have gone for that if I could have found one at the right price I think… What turbo are you running? Is the cold side the right way up? How are you going to route the IC pipework as its facing downwards?

Looks good apart from that mate, keep at it!

Looks good buddy, engine bay will looks great once it's all painted up with that 20VT in there! One thing i'd say is to keep an eye on that turbo though, heard a few horror stories of the Chinese ones due to unbalanced turbine shafts and wheels.
