This is where it all started for me!
This week it has been in the garage at a Bosch Specialist. The mechanic looked over it, completed pressure tests - cold and hot and determined that it was losing pressure after about 30 minutes (approx).
The fuel pump that I'd never replaced was suspected so that was changed. Pressures re- tested but still not right. WUR was suspected so cleaned but made no difference. Replacement sourced, tested again and set up properly.
At present all is well and it's running smoothly - and hasn't failed to start. It remains to be seen if it stays like that!!! Fingers crossed. 😬😬😬

The bottom end has been noisy since I got it in 2002 but never changed tone.
Last week, with warm oil, the oil light flashed and the buzzer came off. I was off the gas immediately and the buzzer stopped.
A tinny sound then started in the rocker cover area.
The garage has deemed that the top and bottom needs attention and the easiest/ most reliable method will be a replacement engine.
The costing starts today!! 😩😩😩

Rebuild the one that's in there then you know it's good for another 200,000 miles plus…
Unless you are fitting something different or a all ready reconditioned engine?

Once the engine was out, the shell was taken to Trident Motor Group Ltd, St Annes for the bay to be sprayed. They did under the bonnet too…. which was nice!!! 😎
Job done and what a difference!!! A much quieter engine. Gone are the rattles that I've lived with for 18 years!
Mileage 177,264
An immediate wash was needed - it was filthy!!

Went for the rebuild of the original engine in the end. Numbers still retained.

Typically, once one issue is sorted it seems to kick up another…. probably due to bits being moved around, unplugged and put back in.
This time it was a major backfiring issue. Turned out to be the ignition amplifier. Once again the garage that sorted the hot start came up trumps. 👍
On with the other jobs now. 🤓

1. Oil and filter
2. Timing belt was a bit tight so was adjusted
3. Gear linkage adjusted - wouldn't go in first
4. Slight coolant leak - new cap sorted that
5. Noise from steering when turning - CV joints re-greased, I'll see how that goes
I got the call to collect it but decided to go in the morning.
Before I could go I got a call saying that the water pump was leaking (fitted in January) so they'd need to put a new one one. More delay!!!
Collected on 12/05/20.

An order from funk-star had me fitting stuff this morning.
1. Interior light - now white, not yellow
2. Door pin surrounds
3. Intermittent wiper relay
4. Scuttle tray
I'd got a new reverse switch cause I suspected it to be faulty - back from the garage after the gear linkage had been corrected and they're working again!!
I now have a surplus reverse switch 🙄
Still to complete,
1. Fuel filter pipes to metering head and return when time allows (done 04/05/21)
2. Rubber boot for under the car to cover the linkage (done 04/05/21)
3. Door membrane and fittings MotoMeter clocks - not working properly at the moment is the MPG field in the MFA - showing 99.9. Vacuum is working properly so it must be the black thing on the back of the clocks, previously described as a G55 unit.
Attempts to repair the dashboard tabs that hold the dash surround didn't work either, just not enough to fasten to. Frustrating afternoon. 😩

Don't know what to suggest about the dash, glue hardboard/mdf strips behind the damage to repair and spread the load?

We were having a Facebook discussion last night and crazyquiff was thinking about doing some research work…. I can't see the discussion now so maybe it's been deleted!!
Re the dashboard, further thought is needed before trying it again cause it's time consuming…. and frustrating - and breakages can occur then! 😬

I was considering using fibreglass to do some minor dash repairs on mine, but the fact that no one else seems to have suggested it makes me think it might not be a good idea, but I can't think why…?

Id suggest fibreglass! Good old fashioned Isopon P40 off of the 70's!

This is where it all started for me!
It’s like modelling clay once you’ve kneaded it together.
Shape it let it go hard.
You can file it, drill it etc.
It’s easy to smooth with a wet finger,
I’ve repaired a few glove box lid hinges with it etc.
You can buy in grey, black, white etc.

wonderful to see mk1 cab getting the love it deserves. Glad you rebuild the original engine, most people would not do this.
Cheers. It was probably more expensive but it keeps the originality. 👍
