The bane of my life...

Firstly, the exhaust fell off in the middle of the A34 one cold wintery night, I should have known then it was going to be a long road…
I got the exhaust sorted, and a couple of small electrical niggles, then it went off to the trimmers to have a new black canvas on to replace the dark blue one it came with. Easy enough right? Nooooooooooo not at all. Turned out that underneath the old canvas was this piece of the Titanic:
Initially I sourced another frame to replace this, but it was a later version and would have meant some alterations to the interior, so we sent the frame off to a fabricators and they did an amazing job of fixing it!
While all this was happening, I sent the car off to my garage for a check over. I knew it was running slightly hot and just wanted to make sure it was all OK. Again, not OK! Turns out a head gasket had been fitted previously, and not only was it the wrong gasket but it was on upside down! This meant I had to send the head off for skimming, and then rob a bank at the thought of the bills piling up…
The car stayed with my garage for months, availability of parts was not great and meant the poor guy just sat around waiting most of the time it was there. But a few weeks back, I got the call to go and pick him up
So now he's home and I have cracked on as best I can in my spare time. The frame is now back on, headlining and insulation done with just the new canvas and seals to fit back on.
The interior gets worse before it gets better, but now everything is cleaned and ready to put back together
So that is pretty much where I am now. It really has been a crappy 6 months, this was going to be my daily but I've had to buy something else in the meantime. Although it is a TDi Lupo which is great fun too I'll keep this thread updated and hopefully be posting pictures of him all back together in the next few weeks!

Seems to be the norm with these cars, one step forward, 8 back
Stick with it though, will be worth the tears and frustration
