MORE problems!
Tonight I decided to tackle to new brake upgrade as I insured the car last week and I am determined to have a drive of it this year.
So I got the new calipers and adaptor brackets the make the vr6 calipers work to find that the previous owner has drilled out the caliper mounting points and the thread!
So now I need new hubs!!
Also failed massively to get the horn Earth wire on the rack due to lack of clearance.
The money pit strikes again!!!!!!

Ordered brake discs and pads today.
MTEC drilled and grooved g60 280 mm front discs.
MTEC drilled and grooved 16v rear discs
VR6 54 EBC yellow stuff front pads
Mintex mk4 rear pads
Also found a pair of front mk1 hubs.
Still need full sets of wheels bearings all round and Front brake callipers brackets.

Today's thoughts.
So now this has yet again turned into a massive job do I got the full hog and pull off all the lower arms, hubs, brake calipers strut braces and get the whole lot powered coated?
The arguments I've read on powder coating v's painting calipers I'm not sure which direction to go in???
The hubs could be powdercoated as I'll be fitting new wheel bearings to them.
Thoughts anyone?

Powder coat the parts that require a lot of dismantling to get to and/or are in high exposure to moisture locations.
Parts that are easily accessible and simple to remove can be freshened up/repainted when required.
Then again if you enjoy pulling different parts of your car apart over the Winter project period, go with the do it yourself quality paint option

This was ment to be a quick brake upgrade before the summer BUT it's turned into a bigger job then normal.
I've got to repress bearings back into the hubs so that's why I thought of powdercoating them.
The brake calipers I'm not too sure on might stick to paint.

Sorted the horn, couldn't get the screw back in as it wouldn't cut so used the unused gear linkage mount.
Charged the battery and fired the engine up to give it a run.
Still waiting for the new hubs to turn up then I can get on with refurbishing them.

New hubs turned up but can't get the drive shaft nut off.
Put the brakes back on but still won't budge.
Longer breaker bar ordered and I'll use the blow lamp next.
Not looking like it will get out this summer.

The swear jar is full tonight!!!!!!
So my latest task has been to get the drive shaft nut off.
Got the blow lamp so it to warm it up nice but nope not coming with a struggle.
Finally got it off and threads are now f**kes on the drive shaft end!
Now did I do that undoing it or was it cross threaded when it was put on???
So what do I need now a drive shaft end?!?

Classic vw have just had another order placed.
2 x wheel bearing kits
2 x cv joints
2 x lower ball joint
2 x ball joint fitting kit
A set of g60 caliper brackets.
This simple brake upgrade is getting out of control now!!
On the other hand I know by the time this golf if finished it will be all new and best condition.

Dropped the hubs off for the new bearings pressing in.
I think I'll stick to red for all the parts as the strut brace and arms are already red.

Hubs now painted and ready to refit with all new ball joints etc.
Stripped front calipers down and ordered a full rebuild kit.
They are also going to get a coat of red.
Still waiting on the caliper brackets.
